mac osx

It can be installed on you new pc,However we cant discuss it here due to the forum rules :)

And its still illegal.....Wish apple would stop been so damn selfish and make their licence so we can install them on a standard pc if we wish.....theyre loosing ALOT of money not doing this.

I would buy it if we could.

That goes against their business model of it "just works," because they design every aspect of the machine. You take out the Apple hardware and they may end up like Microsoft with a more bloated OS to support 100s of thousands of hardware configurations and have a heavy dependence on third party vendors actually making products that don't suck. A lot of times with Windows it isn't Microsoft's fault, it is the third party developer for writing crappy code or making a janky product.

Windows 7 isn't heavy at all.

What is a full install of Win 7? Also MS is dropping a crap ton of legacy support to make it slim, so expect a lot of older things to not work. That copy of Office 97, probably no longer gonna work probably going to be forced to upgrade to at least office XP or 03.

Resist change all you want. I don't want or need to use 12 year old Office software anyway.

Yeah, well you are preaching to the choir man. I don't run or use legacy software, however many many computer users do. I would love it if everyone I worked for or helped with computers had the budget and the willingness to just upgrade their applications. That is just not the reality of it.

You didn't answer my question though. I googled it though, seems that Win7 beta currently takes over 6gigs full install.

Which is about what OS X takes full install, but with Snow Leopard and the drop of PPC support OS X will probably drop to under 4gigs full install, or so they say.

MS Office 07' isn't gonna leave a hole in your pocket. It's not expensive at all, the student edition is like $100 and that's not bad for what you get. If a company is still using 97' per say then maybe they should stop doing what they are doing :). The legacy OS stuff needs to stop, MS is moving on.

.

The day people are no longer willing to pay a significant premium for MAC PC's - is the day they'll let their license available for standard PC.

IMHO - of course.

Well, not everyone is a student. Not everyone has $100, and the times are tough right now. Also, if you are an enterprise deployment and you have to buy 3,000 licenses of office it can get quite expensive real quick.

Volume licensing anyone?

I agree with what's already been stated, volume licensing. A company shouldn't be using 97', and if they are there are many options for them to upgrade. Many may not be a student, but even at Best Buy they run good deals once in a while. If you are going to use the software then the price tag is no big deal, and with today's standard $100 dollars isn't a lot.

To stay on topic, it's all up to whom wants to use Windows 7. If the company is still hanging on to dead technology then they have the choice to keep their current configuration, I however will get Windows 7 as soon as it comes out.
