I was thinking of starting a group of map builders. Since we cant all work on one map at the same time, I thought we could all discuss a map, or maps that we should build, and do them individually. Like collaborate, then build.


It would make creating the map overall a lot easier. And I can host them online.



So, what do you think.
 
I like the idea of a CF map making team, but I must disagree. I think we could ALL easily work on the same map. One day team member A could design the room. Team member B puts in textures. And team member C lights it. Because not everyone is good at all three, but three separate people could make one amazing map!

Of course you probably know that Im willing to work on some maps. Im not that creative though and I wont be able to devote my life to it :P, but it will give me something to do in the free time.

We would also need a good medium with which to communicate and an online database type thing to where if member A has the map ready for member B to work on but A isnt on xfire (or steam or whatever we choose) so he cant upload it to B directly. B can simply download it from the database. I do have my site with which I can host the database if need be :).

Sounds fun, find the whole 2 other members that like to map (p.s. you might want to let the other members know this is for hammer ;)) that go to CF and we can get started!

As long as you have half life 2 or counter strike source no, just go to steam and click tools and download the SDK and there is hammer!

Thats another question though. What types of maps are you planning on making? Single player (in which case you will need hl2) or multi (where you will need css)?
 
I didn't think we could all work on one map at the same time, if we can, thats great.

I can use my friends Ventrilo server.


We'd make multi player Counter Strike: Source maps.

Wahoo, im 3 of 3 (kobaj and gamer). lets get this party started.

As for comunitcation, xfire works best for me.
I can do vent, and i own a TS, if we wanna do voice.

Speaking of TS, i think im gonna set it up as a CF TS cause i dont use it.

I dont want to assign ranks, but I want everyone to know that Kobaj and Myself are the ones you can talk to about joining or questions.
 
I love this idea. I've tried Hammer in the past, somehow I got it working then, but I tried recently and couldn't get past the configuration. Anyone got xFire or something to walk me through getting it setup? If so I'd love to be on the list.

Hammer should auto set itself up now, simply click the refresh game content in the SDK menu thing. If you have orange box, before you run the SDK you do need to do some extra settings, its in my guide.

If you guys want to talk to me my xfire is (guess what!) kobaj :D.

I think xfire would be the best medium, as most dont have irc (cough, me). Its a small download, and can do everything we want.

Alrighty! Ive discussed some with g4m3rof1337 and we think its best to have some meet up times to chat, get to know each other, get to know the plan, see what maps we want to make, see if anyone needs some help, and other general stuff.

I feel the best would be if I could get everyone who is participating to send me a pm with their STEAM friends name so I could get a headcount of how many intend to attend (yay pun!). Also send what times are good for you and maybe Ill find a better meeting time for next week.

For now the meeting will be held with STEAM chat, as everyone should have it, as its built into STEAM which is kinda required to run the SDK (actually, I believe tux found a way the not need STEAM :P). I would like to get started as soon as possible. So how does tomorrow (nov. 28) from 4pm (gmt -6) to whenever sound?

You will need to be with the STEAM computer forum group. Send a pm to one of the admins to let you into the group. Simply click enter chat room on the right hand side of the STEAM window. (if you cant figure it out, send me a pm).

If you cant make it, Ill be in the group chat on friday same times and saturday (perhaps all day) to fill you in. (Hopefully, if I remember XP).

If you have any problems at all Im always open to chat, my email can be found here (the first one, duh). Xfire is here. And my STEAM here. And everyone knows how to pm.

(Would type it out, but have been getting massive amounts of spam).

Hm.
I have work tomorrow, from 4pm Central to 7.


If Kobaj can run everything discussed by me afterwards, that'd be fine.
