I want to build my first PC, i know enough about the parts and all but i dont want to get caught up in any overkill for what i want to do so i figured id come hear and ask smarter people then myself.
Essentially i want to build a media center PC/storage PC, emphasis on the storage part. I would like to use as many hard drives as possible with as much space on them as possible, i've herd WD just came out with a 10tb helium HDD. but im a sceptic to new Tech and wouldn't want to get in to anything that may fail after short periods, so reliability is KEY. I know this is the part that some chime in and say NO hard drive is 100% reliable but granted some are better then others as far as performance and life expectancy
The PC also needs to have a fare amount of RAM, as the program i use winds up using more and more memory the more files i add to it and i want it to always run smooth, DDR4? 8Gs? 16Gs? 64Gs? if its possible?
I was thinking i would run the main Drive as an SDD as ive herd they are faster, and running things would come from the main drive anyway, the storage drives just hold media videos and music so i dont see a problem running HDD.
i want this all to run nice and cool with a long life expectancy. graphics cards beyond something that can handle a nice 1080p video are unnecessary
any thoughts on a build you would go after knowing this info? I assume i need a motherboard with a few PCI slots to handle the extra SATA cables for 8 to 10 HDDs so thats a must to, as for processor again i dont think i need anything super powerful to keep up but maybe im wrong you guys tell me.
