Thank you for your patience, unlike the other guy who jumped to conclusions. You are right. I am using a 56K. I just found out that there is an "edit" function on the forum. I was trying to edit a message. But, before I found it, I had to change my words around the old way. I had no idea that it would get on people's nerves. I am sorry.

Anyhow, I still can't find that info you described.

Screensaver is the only thing that would require movement to bring it back from a darkened state. If it's in standby or hibernation you need to hit the power button to wake it up. Check AGAIN that you don't have default screensaver or blank screensaver selected. AND if you open up the laptop and look on the part right below the screen (or on a strip going vertically across the top) it will tell you which model of compaq you have.

Right-click Desktop > Properties > ScreenSaver Tab > In here make sure your screensaver is set to (None)

In thta same tab, click "Power" button > In the "Power schemes" Tab selet the "Always On" scheme, and make sure everything underneath is set to "Never". Also go to the "Hibernation" tab and make sure it is disabled.

This can stop your monitor from shutting off. If it still has problems, you might have a seperate program that is trying to manage your laptop's power. However, just remember if you set it to "Always on" your laptop will be running at full speed 24/7, nd your battery life will decrease ALOT compared to a more efficient power scheme.

Underneath the laptop should have the info on your model number. Well after reading all those pages, I would have to say that there could be something wrong with your display panel, motherboard or connection from the display to motherboard. It's hard to trouble shoot over a forum and not see it in front of your, but it's probably in that area. To help narrow it down, do you have a monitor lying around that you can plug into the laptop? So when the screen blinks out, see if the image on the monitor is still ok. Either way, it's a pretty old system and I highly doubt its still under warranty of any kind, so you'll probably need to get a new one. Cost to fix something like that wouldn't be a good decision to salvage.
