Hey guys I think my motherboard is going bad. Its a Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro (socket 754). This is a system I built about 4 years ago. All of a sudden all of my USB ports stop responding, and my computer randomly crashes or freezes. Especially when using Firefox (Firefox will give me an error message and as soon as I close the message the computer crashes). I have a Boom mic, Ext. HDD, CD/DVD Burner, and a 4-port USB Hub thing all plugged in to my USB slots on the MOBO. At some point during the Windows loading screen everything will respond like its going to work, and then shut off. For example, the power light comes on for the mic, the activity light on the HDD comes on. But then they shut off again within seconds, and wont respond when in Windows. I have tried Device Manager and didn't get far. The problem is the computer won't stay on long enough to do anything. I am convinced its the MOBO causing the USB problems, but I'm not quite sure about the crashing. The computer is kind of "fragile", what I mean is sometimes it will randomly turn on or off just by plugging something in a PCI slot or something like that.
So I am ready to buy a new MOBO on Ebay, (I wish I had the funds to build a new system). I found one that I think would work quite well, the "Biostar K8NHAG" on geeks.com ebay account. I have never heard of Biostar and was hoping someone can either tell me how to fix my current MOBO, or tell me if I should or shouldn't buy this one. Its pretty much the same as the Gigabyte one, just a little less RAM capability, but oh well. Anyway, hopefully you guys can help, sorry for the long post.
