Ok, here is the problems I have been having. First of two out of the four usb ports I have from the motherboard don't work. 1 of those two make my motherboard scream bloody murder when you plug in a USB. My computer has been steadily getting slower and slower. When I put in the 2 gigs after having 1 gig of RAM I noticed the computer to load images and such a bit faster... For a week. Then it went back to being slow. I don't know if it is the motherboard or processor. As far as I know neither sufferred any damage or jolting of the case. So maybe they are just getting old. Four years is still young in my oppinion but maybe I just got a bad board/processor. Which could it be and how can I tell?

Another issue is that I can't push more than two buttons on my mouse AND keyboard at any one time. This makes gaming very hard. Any ideas why this is? Logitech is the makers of both and didn't help. Is this a motherboard issue as well?

Also, I put in a new hard drive a couple months ago and ever since the computer takes about 30 seconds to a minute of just sitting there just before loading windows as a black screen. I know it is the hard drive because I put back my old one and everything was fine for loading. New one just doesn't load windows right away. Why not?

Lastly. I want to upgrade. This current set up with the information provided above plays WoW at around 20-29 fps pending on where I am. In battle, however, it dips to around 10-15 fps. I want to run at 60 fps during battles as a minimum. What do I need to upgrade in order to reach this? Assuming I don't need to replace damaged parts and the issues above are "all in my head." Is it the graphics card, processor, or motherboard that needs to be swapped for something newer? Or any combination of the above? And would I have to upgrade my power supply? Here are those specs: Hmmm. Actually I can't find out what my current supply is. That program I installed, anyone know how I can determin the power usage to guestimate if I need to upgrade? PS I wont' be doing any other gaming other than WoW on this box so nothing higher than this preference is required.

well it sounds like your system has been used and is in need of some tlc and new parts such as a hard drive and motheboard for sure because it sounds like disk thrashing and a the motherboard sound like theres a fried dimm and other fried components

a new hard drive wont help your fps....

to be honest with you that system is pretty old now. capacitor wear and things like that all contribute to a downgrade in performance.

every problem you have explained sounds like the motherboard dying, usb ports failing/malfunctioning, hard drives not working correctly, ps/2 (i assume) mouse and keyboard also not working.

there is 2 things you can do.

1. buy a new socket 754 motherboard and replace the old dying one.

2. bite the bullet and upgrade alot of things e.g processor ram motherboard and graphics.

depending on which you decide to choose, post back and ill help you find a solution within your budget :)

That sounds fine on replacing most of it. I just bought the new ram though. If I upgrade the motherboard to keep using SATA drives I shouldn't have to switch the hard drive right? Only thing I'd have to worry about is the processor and board. Is there good boards out there for gaming WoW that are dual core compatable and usable with SDRam 400? So I don't have to rebuy ram i got less than a two months ago, lol. Also, Windows XP home isn't dual core capable or is it? I forget that one.

befour going out at getting new hardware, format windows and reinstall it, most of the time its winodws that makes it run slow due to years use downloading, installing programs ect. if that doesn't work and you cant buy a new system then replace the mobo. no you wont need a new HDD, my old SATA drive that i got about 4 years ago works in my rig. Yes XP will work with multi core CPU dual/quads. i think you will find that XP will support upto 32 cores.
