My cores are never the same temperature

Is this normal? I've never had a core architecture processor before. The core temps in SpeedFan are wrong, about 15C too low I think, but everything else there is accurate. The point is, the difference between core1 and core2 is accurate regardless. PC Wizard reports the same.

Could this mean maybe I applied the thermal paste unevenly? I didn't draw a line down the middle. I used the credit card method. Core 1 usually idles around 27C and Core 2 around 36C.

strange... my cores are usually 1 or 2 degrees of max.
What would be more likely is that you're stressing one core much more then the other.
check in your task manager if you have any tasks that run on 1 core.
 
My cores are usually around 9 degrees off eachother, I thought it was normal... Probably just more load on one then the other, well I think its that.
 
mine are usually within one or two degrees of each other, but those temperatures sound way too low, download Core Temp and see what it says the temperatures are, my temperatures don't look right in speedfan either but they look right in core temp
 
My xeons are running at 28 and 29 degrees respectively according to core temp.

Sorry to slightly highjack this thread, but I've got 2 dual core processors - why can I only see one processor's temp in core temp? Is there a program that'll tell me all?

Isn't there a drop down menu to select which processor you're looking at?

Also, Matt, you're right, SpeedFan is 15C too low on my cores. I just wanted to show the difference between them.
 
These are idle temps by the way, I don't think they're coming from stressing core 2 all the time.

If I wanted to fix it, would I need to replace the motherboard or just the CPU?

Maybe I need the full version of the program to do that. If I can't see the imminent meltdown I'm not worried
 
I've got another screenshot I'd like you guys to look at:

The CPU temp here is green, the core 1 temp red and the core 2 temp above it gray. I'm playing Battlefield 2 at the start of the chart and I'm at idle at the end. Core 2 spikes and goes up and down in direct relation to the others, just always about 8C higher.

Based on this, would it be safe to guess it's a sensor error?

Why are they 15C too low, that is weird. What kind of CPU do you have. I see two main trends here. Some people have near identical core temps or they have a difference in around 10C. Is this because some CPUs have a main core and a slave, where the slave would be the hotter one? I guess if this applies, the other situation would be dual cores dividing the tasks evenly. What do you guys think?

In kiddie world, 12-year-olds advertise their system that they built with money they didn't earn in their signature to try to engage in an online penis battle wherein they don't realize that nobody else actually cares.

In the adult world, the purpose of putting one's specs into their signature is to provide easy access for threads such as this, so one need not repeat his or her specs again and again in the process of providing or receiving technical help.


My signature is an example of the latter.


Also, SpeedFan is 15C off on most systems because it accesses the sensor near the core but fails to offset it by adding a fixed amount to try to "guess" the actual temperature.
 
if i'm reading all the posts correctly this temperature difference isn't abnormal...
so what do you want me to say??? just leave it like this.

haha, that's funny. However sometimes people comes here and talk about a computer which is not on their sigs. So if someone asks for your specs, that's when your reply that's it's the one in your sig. You could infact just write "sig" with your penis!

To contribute to the discussion, Speedfan often have some values which are incorrect. So basically, any temp that looks wrong, prolly is.

If that's true, you might still be able to use speedfan to find changes in tempature, but that woudn't be very practical...

There's on "offset" option where you can add a certain amount to whichever temperature you like.

When both cores are offset by +15C, SpeedFan gets the same readings as Core Temp and PC Wizard 2008. For me.


Still wondering if anyone knows which component controls the temp sensors, mobo or CPU. I ask because I got the mobo at Fry's and It'd be painless to exchange it for a week more or so.

Maybe I should update the BIOS?

Worth a try. Although you may be right about simply adjusting speenfan, but keep in mind that my speedfan indicates 30C for one core (seems normal) and like 59 for the other which is way off, either simply a bad sensor, or speedfan not reading the info correctly, so correcting it may still give random/incorrect values.
 
my cores are off 1-2 degrees max as well. maybe you applied the thermal paste poorly. i don't know, but ~10 degrees or more doesn't sound right. imo you have to consider how small a processor is. if you put your hand next to a light bulb while it's on, your hand may not get as hot as the lightbulb, but it gets hot, and hotter the longer you leave it there. ~10 degrees seems like too significant a variance when you consider just how close the cores are next to each other and that same distance 100% of the time.

Wow you have problems, any reason for such hostility? No. And there is nothing wrong with putting a planned rig in your sig.

Don't get upset that my new system will blow yours out of the water. Just answer the simple question. No one can read minds, so be specific in your posting.

you're both a bunch of kiddies fortyways is making a thread entirely based on the information of 1 program and has no confirmation from another program whatsoever...

and jlvk2 you're taking offense of something that's written on some forum and after that you start showing of your rig and telling that it's so much better then his...

get a life... there are other things out there besides computers and other IT related crap...


soooo i just felt some anger i had to let out, i feel much better now :)
