My Dell Experience - Never Again

Dell has 1 advantage, its the fact that you can buy a comp for like $300. Its really hard to do taht building one on your own, performance is crappy and they use cheap parts, but hey for some people a computer is a computer.

Dell for my grandparents. They love it, does what they need, kept them ok on their tight budget. Me, I'd kill myself, just by the way things are with dells. My brother has a nice Dell laptop, does what he needs, again, I can tell you, not for me. Dell is not for people who like to mess with computers, or who are even above average. For everyone else, they're fine.

jp? Why do you need so many computers. You're 15, right? Ever concider saving some money for a car? Is it really neccisary to replace all 3 old ones with new ones? Just wondering what your thought process is on this issue.

Sometimes I wonder about people on this forum…. :-)

I have upgraded or installed (not replaced do to failure) CD/DVD Drives, Zip, HD’s Audio/Video Cards, Ram, fans, mobo’s in other cases, power supplies, LAN cards and more all on Dell computers. I think their just about as flexible as any other computer, which I have owned or worked on in the past. I have yet to find out why people think they are any different from any other computer when coming to upgrading or messing with as some would say.

It would be neat to see an experiment where someone would produce from start to finish his or her “custom built” computers on a large scale. Just to see if their customer support and computer reliability would compete on the same level as corporate computer companies.

Sometimes I wonder about overly sarcastic people...

Does anyone else notice Dell is now charging for a restore disc?

you can custom build a computer for $160.
That's still not really as good as that $300 dell.

Dell computers appeal to a different market then 98% of the people on this forum.

They are for people who dont want to custom build, dont know a lot about computers, and dont want to do anything very intensive. Dell computers also make excellent business computers.

Yea, my school has Dells, no problems whatsoever there. The main issue with the problems my school has is the unprotected Windows 2000 install and viruses with kids visiting myspace and all that trash. The hardware has yet to fail them whatsoever. They're optiplex machines, IIRC.

yeahh, same with my school, some classrooms got GX110's, some got GX240's, and 260's.. also a ton of viruses floating around my school.

I find my Dell's work great. I have both a Desktop and a Laptop. 8400 Desktop and the 700m laptop. I have had to replace a video card (which was under warranty)...
Called up support, told them it went out. The next day I had a new video card in my computer.

Possibly you are having problems because owning a computer takes some kind of awareness? Computers can't be abused.

Has nothing to do with the manufacturer, but the school is to blame.

That's cool. I only have three computers in my house, My PC, which is in the sig, My parent's PC=2.4 P4/512/80, and my bro's Dell laptop=1.66 Core Duo/1 GB/100.

I always wanted to have some older machines to fool with.

Definately, you shouldn't even buy it from a company where you customize it all liek some of you are planning on doing.

sure, cause those guys running PowerEdge 1855 really are 'below' average ;)
Dell are so big and powerful for one reason, they make good quality affordable comuters, to cater for all requirements.
There servers are renound to being good quality and having good SLA's
