Need guidance and tips

I would try to reseat the memory modules first. Then check the system settings in the control panel to see if "4gb useable" is still occurring.

so is it better to wait for the rx480? what's the best option to go with right now?

Absolutely, the RX480 is a steal of a deal! The benchmaks and reviews thus far are extremely impressive for AMD and the aggressive pricing is a smart move on their part. I have no doubt they are gonna sell alot of those cards!

don't laugh, i don't know how to do this so ill take it to my computer shop when they open
I wouldn't go to a computer shop to do that. It's really really REALLY simple.

Here's a video demonstrating how to reseat memory. Make sure to turn the power off, and unplug it from the wall. After you have the side window removed from the computer case, touch the metal part of your computer case before touching any other computer component inside to ensure that you have grounded the static electricity from you body.

the system settings in the control panel, i uploaded a photo. Yesterday it said i only had 4gb now it is saying i have 8 again but only 4 is usable?
What motherboard do you have and what OS are you running? Is it 64 bit or 32 bit? This usually means a bios update is needed or need to change max mem setting in windows.

His OS is 64 bit from the pic... not sure what his other specs are though. Considering he's pretty new to computer stuff like this, I'd say he has no clue what bios version he's on.

you couldn't be more right! lol. Im also confused is my cpu no good? people saying it's a death trap and stuff, guy at the store reckons is fairly good, starting to reconsider this computer store now lol

Unfortunately, you are running the only bios version of that board. Motherboard revision 5.0 only has bios revision FA. What particular OS are you running? Windows 7?

A few things to try.

1. Remove and reinsert memory sticks in different slots.
2. Its possible you have the bios setting for shared memory for onboard video too high. Check shared memory settings.
3. Change amount of max mem. Follow this guide.

yes it's windows 7 im downloading windows 10 as we speak
are you able to answer my question about the cpu?

What cpu question? Looked through the whole thread and can't find one.

quoted from "origin saint"

New CPU? Wrong. That would be a costly and pointless decision given AM3+'s death sentence and and switching to Intel would just be costly for no great reason.

referring to this^ "am3+'s death sentence"

The AM3+ socket is just old... really old infact. The replacement socket AM4 is coming around the corner. That's all.
