Hi :) i want to learn about computer hardware and stuff because i consider myself a gamer...i guess everyone needs to start from somewhere so i guess i'll start from here lol

Right now according to my friend i have a CRAP computer...these are the details for it:

and i'll be getting it for $215 dollars (aus)

i was wondering...because this is like my first time...would this piece of equipment work on my computer?? or is there something that my computer doesnt match or have that can support this vid card??

ALSO last question!!!

About RAMS...i thought RAMS were just any chips that you get to shove into your computer somewhere...with the computer I HAVE what type of RAMS can i only use????

i'd appericate if someone took 10mins to help a noob out here :( plz go easy on the technical words about computers because iam still new to this... THANK YOU ^^

First off that isn't a crap computer. :P An extra GiB of RAM would do you well, this video card upgrade moreso. For this task the 9600gt is a great card, but it doesn't need that 1GB of VRAM (and by extension to be so pricey). Take a look here for cheaper versions, go for a 512mb version,

The big question. I would assume your motherboard has a PCI-e slot, which all modern graphics cards use, to be certain download a sys info app like PCwizard or Everest and give us the motherboard make and model. Apart from the physically seating, you'll also have to take a look at your power supply. The side sticker on the unit should list everything you need, both the wattage and the amperes on the +12v rail(s). Might look something like this. You might only have one +12v rail, list the specs of all if you have more.

Yeah, you need specific modules. Once you get the motherboard make/model we can give you the type of RAM compatible with your system.

^ Never mind that, it's spam.

I'm 99% sure your computer takes DDR2, which is so dirt cheap, you may as well go for 4 or 3 GB... depending on what sticks you already have. As for anything else, your computer is pretty nice (*not for hardcore gaming*).

...was it custom built? If it was, that CPU is a great overclocker, you may want to see if you could OC it a little (those things can handle 3ghz on air easily)... even if you don't have a good OCing board, you should be able of getting some extra juice out of it. Any chance you could post us your MoBo make/model?

errrmm....can you teach me alittle about OC? i heard my frnd talk about it and i dont know what it does... How do i OC my computer and how much does it cost? and errm..i was wondering what the difference btween DDR2 and DDR3 are in RAMS and how do u check if your computer can support DDR2 or DDR3??

Your PC is alright. But you need few upgrade.
1. extra RAM. Get another 2 x 1GB DDR2 800RAM
2. Aftermarket Heatsink for overclocking
3. A video card. 9600GT is a good choice, but you don't need a 1GB VRAM unless you hook it to a 50" TV. Just Go for a 9600GT 512MB for $140 or 8800GT for $160
4. May be a good PSU as well.

In order to know what set up you have, download program like everest would you what you've got
