Well DX10 is recommended (not necessary. Theres a variant of DX9 that will also work with vista) for vista. You will also need DX10 for newer games. Any bugs in DX10 could probably just be fixed thru software updates.
DX10 will be the nVidia 8 series and R-something for ATI (don't follow them).
I'd say its worth it to get it when you can.
I just dont want to spend my alot of money on a 7950GT and than have to buy a DX10 card later. I was thinking of getting a 7600GT now and than buying a DX10 card later. Is that a good idea??? Will a 7600GT play games like Halo 2/games like that on a high setting???

Guys think about it..christmas time is coming, ppl dont buy isht in jan-march...so to sell more, they need to have dx10 cards come out for christmas time.

DX9 cards will be able to play new games such as crysis but they will not run on DX10.
In wikipedia it says that GeForce 8 (G80) will be released in mid-November 2006, and R600 will be released in early 2007.
