Need help on DX10 cards

I'm getting my computer around Christmas and I was wondering should I get a DX10 card right away or should I hold off until all the bugs are worked out? What kind of DX10 cards are there going to be around that time? Is DX10 really going to be worth it?

Well DX10 is recommended (not necessary. Theres a variant of DX9 that will also work with vista) for vista. You will also need DX10 for newer games. Any bugs in DX10 could probably just be fixed thru software updates.

DX10 will be the nVidia 8 series and R-something for ATI (don't follow them).

I'd say its worth it to get it when you can.

They'll be expensive because they will have been recently released, compared to the latest DX9 cards having been released a few months ago. It depends on which model you go for.

I highly doubt DX10 cards will even be out in Decemember, you you'll probably have to get a DX9 card, and wait for DX10 to be fully operational early '07.

Yeah, DX10 will probably come out with Vista, late Q1 or Q2 2007.

Edit: I would get a 7600 GT as a placeholder, then get a DX10 card later on.

I just dont want to spend my alot of money on a 7950GT and than have to buy a DX10 card later. I was thinking of getting a 7600GT now and than buying a DX10 card later. Is that a good idea??? Will a 7600GT play games like Halo 2/games like that on a high setting???

I doubt on high, but since Halo 2 will come out when vista does, which is when DX10 comes out, you should be fine.

Get a 7600 GT now then a DX10 card. Best path IMHO.

I don't know about halo 2, but it will play most games today at high settings with decent framerates.

Guys think about it..christmas time is coming, ppl dont buy isht in jan-march...so to sell more, they need to have dx10 cards come out for christmas time.

That could be right too. We (supposedly) have pics of a G80 card. So I dunno. Then again, my birthday is in Q2 so ya never know. :P

Thats true, but thats not how things happen. Take Vista for instance, it would have been great if they got the consumer versions shipped in November-December, that way new PC's will have Vista on it. But there not shipping until Q1/Q2 of 2007.

well... i prefer them doing the job right and take a bit longer then anyway tbh.
I mean... if its really good... many people (or at least enough) will buy it anyway,.. regardless the release time.
sure... it would sell better at crysmas time... but immagine how much the immage would take damge if the program is buggy as hell :)

DX9 cards will be able to play new games such as crysis but they will not run on DX10.

In wikipedia it says that GeForce 8 (G80) will be released in mid-November 2006, and R600 will be released in early 2007.

Wiki is just speculation of what people think. It may turn out to arrive then, but then again it may not.

Sorry I was trying to say halo and other game that are like it. I'm not expecting to play oblivion on a 7600GT. Or should I find a cheaper 7900gt??
