Need help on my first build

mistake 1: you went to cyberpower, Build yourself and you will end up with a higher quality build.

Are you sure that you want to use a Zambezi octo core? they are not really up to par. a 955BE will run games just as well, and some better,

and what is your budget? we can select the right parts for you, and guide you through the rprocess of building.

also with the patches to be released i'd say wait to see how zambazi performs before saying it's not up to par wolfe, it should only be another week or 2 before they are out otherwise they will lose a lot of confidence from the community which after the release benches they need all they can get before their stocks just bottom out

the thread is going on now, not in 2 weeks. So, at the current time, they are crap processors. if the patch fixes them and thy gain some major performance, then I will recommend them. Until then, the 955 is king.

why not the 65, 70, or 80, they're better really :P and i'd hate to buy something when there is info saying in a week or 2 i coulda gotten something much better

technically if it is for overclocking the 70 and 80 come from a higher yeilding batch and generally can go higher clocks

If you want AMD. Get the 955, if you want to spend alittle more get a FX 6100 and overclock the hell out of it.

True the Zambezi isnt much faster clock for clock then the Phenom X4/X6. But overclocks alot better so you end up with a faster chip no matter how you look at it and a newer generation. No reason to get a Phenom II unless you save some and go with a 955 or get a 1090 cheap.

I would like to stick between $1000 and $1500 before tax and shipping. But the budget isn't set in stone.

Btw thanks for all the replies guys, I was a little worried no one would help.

Go i7 2600k if you have that kind of budget. 8 cores doesnt make sense for gaming, as far as cost goes, because they are just starting to make use of 4 cores. Even an i5 2500k would beat up on the 955.

the "8 core'' zambezi is closer to your HT 2600 than it is to a true 8 core. It actually only performs on par with a 6 core because of the module design (each module is about 1.5 cores. 1.5*4=6).
either way, I would say go with a quad core. What are you (OP) going to be gaming with it? that will determine AMD or Intel (if its GPU intensive, go AMD and get a stronger GPU, if CPU intensive, go intel and slack on the GPU a bit)
