Need help upgrading!

I am looking to buy a new video card for my computer. It's a family computer, and I might be purchasing a whole new computer in about 1-2 years, so I don't want to spend a fortune or get the top of the line video card now.

I am going to be gaming on it, so I am guessing that the price range would be around $120-$200, but I would really like to be able to go as low as possible while still being able to play new games. They don't need to be max settings.

My specs right now are:

Summary
Operating System
MS Windows 7 64-bit SP1
CPU
Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.80GHz 50 °C
Lynnfield 45nm Technology
RAM
4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 667MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK Computer INC. P7H55D-M EVO (LGA1156) 52 °C
Graphics
DELL 1908FP (1280x1024@60Hz)
512MB GeForce 8400 GS (ASUStek Computer Inc) 41 °C
Hard Drives
488GB Western Digital WDC WD5000AAKS-22A7B2 ATA

Thanks for your help!

going by that i can guees it's on a factory power supply, which isn't something you want to put any graphics card on other than what it has already pretty much. a new power supply will ba about 60 for a good enough one, and then you can get a HD6850 or a GTX550ti, and those can be moved over to the new computer in a year or 2. But also you can play the newest games over the next year or 2 on even a HD6570, just goes to resolution and settings for that.

How can I check what my power supply is?

Open the case and look at it. Should have the make and model and amount of watts and other info. If there's no make or model, then you'll definitely need to replace it.

they all say that. Its the USA federal standard.

You will need to open the case and look at the tag on the side. It should have a number ion watts, not volts.

Alright so I will go with the GTX 460 and that power supply. Thanks for the help!

Might be a stupid question, but all power supplies are the same size/fit in all cases right?

it should if your using a full size case, not a skinny one. although sometimes they don't and holew must be drilled, but that's not very often i don't think.
