hey, i was wondering what is the best possible laptop i can get for around $1500? i have looked at Dell, HP, and Toshiba and im not sure what would be best for me. i want something that does everything on the net fast and multi tasks well. thanks in advance

i say go for ACER they have nice laptops light and durable i myself purchased 2 laptops from them get AMD processor i love em cheap and reliable... Intel Blows expensive and it breaks! i also have 2 desktop processor one with AMD Live Core 2 Duo and its always on 27/7 no problems... never slowed down and a HP Intel Core 2 Duo processor E6300 with Viiv technology and it freezes after 30 min of uptime ... and i have a Toshiba satellite which blows and i spent more money to buy it! its gay and never buying intel anymore

Consider a Dell Insprion 9400. Go through Dell small business and start with a base machine.

I would be sure to get:
an Intel Core 2 Duo (I went with the 7400)
2gigs of RAM
ATI Video card, The Nvidia may put you over your cost
UXGA True life screen

I think they have a deal now where if the price comes to 1399, you can take off an additional 350. You should be able to get what you need close to 1500.

BTW - If you want to do things on the internet faster, you need a good broadband connection and even this can sometimes be slow for many different reasons. Even a slower PC can allow you to surf the net fast. If this truly is your only requirement, I wouldn't drop a ton of money into a machine with fast processors and additional RAM

is it just me or does it seem like everything is cheaper under the small business section? i was also wondering how i can get an addition 350 off if i spend 1399.

i was surprised to see that they offered xp under the small business..do you think i should go with vista or xp?

for the guaranteed stability, go for XP
but if you want the eye-candy, go for Vista however, you just have to be patient with some problem... im sure Microsoft is working on some SP1

alright..i'll probably just go with vista because everything is going to start focusing on vista instead of xp. what about getting an upgrade for a wireless card, worth it?

would anyone mind care to set me up a system for around $1500 or so?

Here ya go (1572):

You lost 100 bucks, it's now only 250 off. This system uses XP (my recommendation) and has no MS word .
When you get it, reformat it to remove all the trash, and you'll love this machine.
By the way, this is more of a notebook, not a laptop. Notebooks are considered desktop replacements. This 17inch version isn't all that small.

i would be fine with a 15.4 inch screen i guess. whats your reasoning for sticking with windows xp?

Worth the Upgrade? 2GB DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHZ, 2 DIMM [Included in Price]
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM [subtract $50]

Worth the upgrade?100GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive [Included in Price]
160GB 5400 RPM SATA Hard Drive [subtract $25]

i dont see what the difference is between the Wide Screen WXGA and the Wide Screen SXGA

is there anything wrong with getting a laptop/notebook from the small business section rather than the home/home office? thanks for your help and patience so far

would the Radeon x1400 be able to handle recent games comfortably or even in high settings??

Mostly because its stable and you already have many things designed for it. New software will be for XP and Vista for quite some time. Why deal with the headaches Vista folks have been having. Upgrade later.

Yes to both of the upgrades. If you can afford it, do it.

I don't game, but I have played doom3 on the highest setting with no problem. If you want a gaming machine, gamers would probably suggest the Nvidia.

nobody said what the difference is between the Wide Screen WXGA (additional $50) and the Wide Screen SXGA (additional $100). They are both the ultra sharp models

I would have to research the difference in the wireless cards. Not sure about that one. Mine works fine and I didn't go with the upgrade.

Click on the "Help me choose link" on the Dell site. It should help clarify the differences in the screens. I'm sure the higher grade is glossy and higher resolution. I went with the Ultra Sharp True Life. Amazing!! Go with the best one, you'll be happier.

The difference would be the protocols it supports. Currently the N is the fasts with a bandwidth of 108Mbit next is G 54 and the B 11.

I think he may be wondering the difference between the Dell wireless card and the Intel Pro. They are only offered in three flavors A, B, and G. I don't know what the difference would be, do you?

ya thats what i meant. is there any coupons or special offers that any of you can get a hold of that i could use?

k i knew to get an intel processor. if i build my laptop with windows xp, will it come with a free upgrade to vista? if not, i have a friend that will let me use his vista CD and i'd like to put it on a separate partition just to try it out...anything wrong with that?

Alright guys thanks for the help. This is what I ended up getting. Any feedback would be appreciated.
