I decided to build a pc from ground up. Two main reasons being 1. I've always wanted to do it and 2. I can afford a much better computer if I buy it piece by piece (I can't save money worth a shit). So I went to NewEgg.com and pick out all the components. Now not knowing shit about building a computer a got two questions. 1. How many watts of power do I need and 2. Looking to build the best computer I can for the least amount of money can you guy recommend some components that will give me the same amount of performance or maybe a little less for less money? The bill for what I've pick out is $2,491.84 before shipping so it needs to come down a bit. But I still want a sickass pc!

So here is what I have picked

The majority of your components are very good, but motherboard might need an update. Feels a little on the low-end side, compared to all the other stuff you've picked.

I agree with this guy ^

As for the power supply, you'll probably be good with a 600 watt or higher power supply. If I were you, I would get rid of the TV tuner and get the better motherboard. And do you REALLY need ultimate? For a hundred dollars less, you can get the basic version and you can probably buy a better CPU or some other component with that money.
Do you know the speed of the hard drive you're getting? (in RPM)
I can't seem to figure out what the speed is.

And also, do you really need to BURN blu-ray discs? The technology is just going to get better and cheaper as time goes on. Maybe you should wait to get a drive that burns, and just get one that reads blu-ray discs. Besides, blank blu-ray discs are really expensive. I would definitely wait a year or two to buy one that burns.

Drop the $759 of memory and get 2 x 2GB sticks for $110 give or take at the same speed. Then use the $600 you saved from something more important, or go i7-920 and a good mobo with 6 gigs. With the money you save on the memory you can get a 5970, i7, 6g and a decent mobo - your mobo and processor costs.

Don't mind downgrading ram some. Actually probably a really good idea. Don't want to downgrade CPU though and if I'm not mistaken the i7-920 runs at 2.66GHz witch is slower then the Phenom II X4 965 witch runs at 3.4GHz. Like I said I'm new to all this so if I have this wrong please let me know.

it's not all about clockspeed. a pentium 4 will run at 2.8ghz but a 2ghz core 2 duo will blow it out of the water. it's all about architechture.

Do some research before you buy the 965.

i7 920 over 965 anyday... Better overclocking capability with turbo boost it goes over 2.66 anyway. Not to mention hyperthreading. Just different technology... You still should be fine with the 965 though.

Keep it coming guys my goal is to have the most insane computer I can get for about $2000 give or take so lets make it better

If I were you, I would get rid of the TV tuner and get the better motherboard.

NO WAY MAN.

If you ever had a 2 monitor setup with a TV Tuner - you'd change that. I used to have the TV to the left of my PC - whre I had to turn my head all the time when I heard something I was interested in. I picked up a $25.00 TV tuner and dropped a splitter from my tuner box - and couldn't imagine being without the tuner again.

I can watch a ballgame - and play a video game - or work on productivity software at the same time. I can set the volume for web vs TV tuner app at whatever I want on the sound window.

TV Tuner = Must See TV :good:

I would get the 5850 over the 5870 though. Paying the highest dollar for the highest end technology which is " a little faster " than it's counterpart is against my DNA. But I'd never build a $2,000 dollar PC either - so maybe my opinion gets overruled... lol

One thing to add

If you have a Local Microcenter you can shave $80 bucks off your CPU price for the i7 920. Check the drop down menu at top of page to see if you have a local store near you. Not available to ship though.
