Never Gonna build Again

Yea!

I tried it again without the side panel and here is what I got after idling for 10 minutes at the system monitor screen.

CPU - 38C
Board - 27C
MCP - 73C

What is MCP, that looks like it is running hot. I guess I just have to use my computer without the side panel.

The MCP is the northbridge, the Nvidia chipset. Those are good temps (MCE may be a little high). Don't worry about that right now. Try to install Windows. What did you do differently, besides removing side-panel? Did you re-apply thermal grease and heatsink? You need to know what you did for troubleshooting purposes. :)

Chipsets seem to run warm, just keep an eye on it. The only thing you can do for the MCP is buy a new cooler or apply new paste. But normally what comes on the chipsets factory are fine...

Most nForce 680i Mobos (like mine) come with a northbridge fan. You need to install it if you have one. It's not really optional. The fan looks like this:

There was a little fan that came with my mobo, but it said it was optional, is that what I need?

The only thing I did was I took of the heat sink and fan and put it back on.

Actually, my manual says it's NOT optional - and it really isn't. Install it. It's easy. How's it goin' so far?

So I put the side panel on and this is what I got idling for 10 minutes at the system monitor screen.

CPU - 45C
Board - 28C
MCP - 70C

So are these okay or should I take off the side panel?

Forget the side panel. Leave it on. Install an OS and make sure you do not receive a blue screen! :P If you don't, your hardware should be O.K.

Tried to install that little fan, but I don't have a small enough screwdriver, guess I'll have to wait 'til tomorrow to try it out.

Thanks for all the help everybody, you have been great help.

I am posting this on my new computer, windows installed okay.

What am I supposed to do now? I think i must have done something wrong because whenever i startup the computer, it goes the a black screen with white writing showing the specs of my computer and it says F1 to continues.

When i press f1 it says something about DMI and then says boot from cd and then it starts windows.

dont worry about dropping stuff on the mobo, i always end up dropping screws, screwdrivers, wireclippers, anvils and they always work. Motherboards are a lot stroger than people think

Haha my computer has always done the F1 thing because i didnt know how to change it at first...then i realized other people couldnt get on my computer so i kept it to be used more like a password. Im still the only one that knows how to get passed it :D
