New build, my first

I need advice on this build please.
One problem seems to be Ram.
The mobo says DDR2 800, but I'm having a bit of trouble finding it on corsairs page, is this the same?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145590
I'm not familiar with XMS but the are also carrying the corsair name
I'm a little afraid of the above ram after seeing so many that were DOA or dies soon there after.
Would DDR2 667 work but just be a bit slower?

also what about the timing?
I know nothing about that.

here's the rest of my build minus a monitor, does everything look compatable?
I'll be doing some gaming but probably not too extreme, and working with music, movies, and some graphics, and probably will put Vista home premium on as an op system.

that would be the right ram, but check the voltage on it and make sure its compatible with the mobo

I didn't see that info given.

Memory
Number of Memory Slots.....4×240pin
Memory Standard............... DDR2 800
Maximum Memory Supported...16GB
Dual Channel Supported........Yes

and like I said, almost every review said they were dead or died shortly.

With the budget you're going to spend, any reason not using Intel C2D?

hey... what do I know, this is my first build ;)
Convince me.
right now I'm using an antique e-machines 400 MHz with 256 ram.
I see you're set up is real close to what I was looking at.
I've always understood AMD's ran cooler (as in less heat)
;)

Not getting much response here, is it against the rules to bump it back up?

I'm also rethinking the case above, I think the power supply being on the bottom might give me cable routing problems and length issues, any other suggestions on a good solid case, nothing fancy but sturdy?

I was looking and found this full tower case, what do you all think?

I figure on using this computer forever, so I'm trying to build it to perform well now but be upgradeable for a while to come.
Things like the case I'll probably keep forever

Still not getting a lot of feedback here, does everyone just hate this set-up then?

I'm still having problems finding memory I'm comfortable with as well.
Spent the last two days reading everything suggested by the mobo manufacturer and then the reviews on those products, and nobody seems to be overjoyed.

Building a pc might be considered cheaper if your time isn't worth anything I guess, but I've spent two days reading everything I can find and my eyes are about to start bleeding, maybe HP would just be a better choice afterall, this is getting pretty frustrating trying to figure out what will work with what and which are decent products at a reasonable price.

Try this I put it together on www.newegg.com

I recommend that setup. It doesn't include a monitor or sound but onboard sound is decent especially with Vista now. It does include Vista Home Premium. I also put on the Tuniq Tower which is awesome for overclocking. Take it off if you don't want to overclock and downgrade the ram to something slower like DDR2 667 or 533 to save some money. No keyboard or mouser either. I recommend a Chimie 22" widescreen if you need a monitor.

Looks like a nice set up, but what I've really been looking for here is peoples thoughts on how compatable the system parts are that I put together.
I noticed you are using the same memory that I've been so concerned about as well, every other review has them DOA or incompatable with certain boards.

It seems that people who like AMD really like AMD and people who like Intel really like intel, so that isn't a real concern, they seem to be decent products in their own rights.
The reason I chose AMD is because they seem to run cooler, and in the long run I think cooler will last longer.
I don't do any real extreme gaming, so overclocking isn't something I even know anything about.
The gaming I do are games like Pharaoh, Sim city, etc. and they don't require much in the way of resources.
Burning DVD's and CD's are something I'll be doing a lot more of then gaming.

I was trying to set up this system so I could play a little more intensive games if I want to, but really am more concerned with being able to continue upgrading to get years of use out of it.

You're not getting a lot of feedback, because you're not waiting long enough, rofl.
People don't post 2 hours after yours.

Don't use a Rosewill PSU, you may want to splash the cash on the PSU and get something like an Enermax.

To be honest I've used 3 Rosewills in other builds and they are quieter and cooler than either the Antec's (5 I've used) or the current Thermaltake Toughpower 650W i currently have which is the hottest and loudest PSU I've ever owned.

I've been looking at these two.

Of those two, the Antec, by far. The Corsair HX520W is a much better PSU at the same price, though.
