New build review

[*]Looking to order components for first build. To be used for general app usage, audio server, some video viewing & backup, potential usage as a remote DVR. Because I am a newbie to building I am especially curious about if I have over-spec'ed this (I reviewd a couple of other Desktop forums threads for most of the components listed below) for the usage I intend. Also want to know about the miscellaneous things that need to be ordered or just have on hand to make the build-out better (cables, connectors, etc.).

  • Processor: Intel I5-3570K
  • Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LK LGA 1155 Intel Z77
  • Newegg Processor + MOBO combo price = $334.98 + $15 rebate card
  • Case: Corsair Enthusiast TX650
  • Power: Corsair Carbide series 400R
  • Newegg Case + PSU price = $159.98 - $40 in rebate cards
  • RAM:G.SKILL Ripjaws X 8GB (2x4GB) 240 Pin DDR3 (PC3-12800) – Newegg $24.99
  • SSD:OCX Vertex 4 VXT4-25SAT3 128 GB – Newegg $139.99
  • HDD: WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM – Newegg $109.99
  • OS: MS Windows Home Premium 64 Bit – Newegg $99.99
  • Net cost - $869.89 - $40.00 Rebate cards = $814.89
  • Need recommendations on:
  • - Optical BD-R/BD-RE/DVD/CD combo drive
  • - TV Tuner card

Will add other storage and 2nd optical later. Because I don't do games, don't know if I need a Video Card or not (heard relatively good things about the on-board Intel 4000 video), or if other components are scaled too high. I do tend to keep machines for a long time. Current machine is HP Workstation xw4100 (P4-3 Ghz w/ 1 GB of RAM, 2 DVD +/- R/W and 3.5 TB of storage) so anything is likely to be at least an order of magnitude faster and better.

It all looks good to me. I used the onboard video on my i5 2500K for a ittle while, it was good, and the onboard video on the 3570K is much better. If you're not doing games then no, don't bother with a graphics card.

Agreed with Spirit. Looks good. My dad has the Intel 3000 chip in his laptop and he can play Portal 2 just fine without, so I'm guessing the 4000 is even better and should be plenty powerful as long as you're not gaming.

Thanks for the responses; what about things like cables and other miscellaneous parts; are there other things I should add to the order so that I can complete the build without needing anything else?

Nope. It should come with everything you need, and normally extras as well. All you need for assembly is a screwdriver or two and some patience.
