Its been a while since i posted a build but here goes. basically in a few months im planning on getting something decent.

my current build is:

Q6600
8800GT
P31-DS3L
2 gb 800mhz
Seagate 80GB 8mb cache

im thinking of getting a Q9450.
as for my graphics card im thinking... 9800GX2?
how do they perform? compared to a 4870 or a GTX280?
what about 2x 4870's in cf?

next is my motherboard. i have always loved the P31/5 but if i can afford it then i want something decent.
got anything 100-200 USD that supports sli? 16x on both slots?

as far as ram goes ill probably just get some Corsair XMS2 1066mhz stuff.
i know 800 is fine but anyway haha. may as well get it.

do you have any thoughts about any of this?

here is what im thinking my new build will look kinda like...

Coolermaster 532 Case.
Q9450.
9800GX2.
Gigabyte X48 Mobo.
4GB Corsair 1066mhz Ram.
Corsair HX620 PSU
2x WD Raptor 150gb 10000 RPM

i have no idea how to have a raid 0 setup but id like to have one with those 2 raptors..
so what do you think?

the X2 should be very good, and from the looks of normal crossfired 4870's, it'll beat any card in Nvidia's line-up.

the monitors are fine, if not perfect.

how will the X2 perform compared to the rest of those cards?
in reality, i dont care about price vs performance, id rather have a nice set of nvidia cards in sli :)

actually... how much will the X2 be?
im thinking 2 of them in CF would be very nice.
any idea on the price?

also any thoughts on the rest of the build? mobo in particular?

i'd probably guess that the x2 will costs 100 dollars or a bit more than a normal 4870.

why go nvidia when you can get almost the same performance from ATi like in the case of the 4870 vs gtx280 and the 9800gx2 right now? :D 4870X2 might blow away the GX2 when it comes out.

i don't know jack about mobo's. :P

ok so heres what im thinking.

Q9450
4Gb 1066mhz Corsair XMS2 (2x2GB)
X48-DS4
4870X2 (when does it come out? what price will it be at?)(should i get 2?)
Corsair HX-1000 watt.
would that be enough for 2 4870X2's?
what is the recommended wattage for one?

actually the 9800GTX is pretty good in SLI so i might get two of them.
beats the 4870X2 and the GX2, from the benchmarks ive seen. so probably worth getting. i do love nvidia haha

can i get some responses about all this people? i need help working all this out. thankyou :)

i am really leaning towards 2x 9800GTX in SLI.
i love my nvidia cards and id be much happier with a nice sli config then a 4870x2 that in my opinion really doesnt look that nice haha

You should get a well known brand PSU and I suggest you to get as much wattage as possible to be future proof.

yeah the GX2 is looking very good.
when the time comes ill just get another one and have a nice quad gpu setup :)

what about a motherboard?
what should i do about that?

hehe. i don't know jack about mo-bo's. all i know is FSB and the right parts that'll fit. i don't know what makes a good Mo-bo :P

haha well then you can sit this one out :)

basically i want a decent mobo that will support full 16x speed for both pci-e slots.
the X48-DS4 seems to be looking the best at the moment.
does anyone, other then jnskyliner34, have any input on the mobo that would suit me best? :)

ok so i have put together a system on newegg.
here it is:

now firstly. i have that psu because in the future ill probably get a second 9800GX2.
1200 watt is enough right?
is that PSU fine?

next, i selected the X48 DS4 as a mobo. there was a DQ6 that was more expensive. whats the difference? is the DQ6 worth getting?

is everything else good?
what do i need to do to get those 2 Raptors in Raid 0?
i know nothing about raid.

thanks for your input

I don't know jack about mo-bo's either but i have the cm690. Awesome case dude. A very good buy :D
