So then what is the difference between Pentium D and C2D? Is is just the speed of it? I realize the pentium is much faster than the celeron.
 
Ok, back on topic. I may not use it now, but I would like to have an SLI motherboard. The reason is whatever I buy I plan on keeping it for a while and may decide to use SLI in the future. Is it going to make the price a lot higher?

Another thing, the cpu that oscaryu1 has provided, I have been reading the reviews and they say it runs hot. Would this be a problem? I don't plan on doing any overclocking. I really don't want to buy a different cooler.
 
If you look closely... almost 100% of the posts are OVERCLOCKING... and if you dont plan on overclocking the stock fans fine... I would recommend some AS5 though.
 
^ Great motherboard! If you are not going to use SLI, then save some cash and get an non SLI mobo.

SLI - Scalable Link Interface. Basically hooking 2 SLI video cards together to work as one. But.. example : 2 8600's arent as good as one 8800
 
So that would be a good motherboard? If I got the same board without SLI, how much would it cost?

Sometime in the future I may decide to get 2 8800's. I may never do that but just in case I decide to, I have that option.

I have no idea on what case to get. Do I have to get a certain case for that motherboard? If so, which one would work? I don't need anything fancy like windows or anything. Do they have cases that have USB ports on the front on them? And what size PSU would you recommend? What are good brands? I was thinking 700 watts or maybe higher so in the future if I decide to upgrade I won't have to worry about the PSU not being enough.

an Corsair 520W should be enough, if you decide to go with it dont get it from newegg though. Its cheaper somewhere else... Gotta find the site :D

When you get 2 8800's then you may find that your processor may be bottlenecking some of the games you play...
 
Hmm.. The 680i and P35's are great motherboards... and the bottlenecking shouln't be an problem if you get the 680i as you can upgrade to an Quad or better Core 2 Duo...

Cases - Look at the motherboard dimensions, if it says Micro ATX, find an case that supports Micro ATX, then it'll work. ATX is an different story though, ATX is larger, and if the dimensions are 12" by 9.6 or so, dont get an case that only supports 11" by 9.6" ...
If the case compatiability just says : ATX , then usually any it will support any ATX mobo.

PSU - Corsair 520HX or other. I think an PSU with 35+ Amps is good for this build. The 520HX could probably hold an Quad or an 8800 if you decide to upgrade later...

I would say to NEVER buy from ebay for power supplies. They list 600W Power supplies with only 24A... (I have 2 of their crappy ones) Look for the Amps on the 12+ on the specifications on the side of the PSU.

USB - Get an USB hub. Remember that there are 1.1 USB hubs and 2.0 USB hubs though, getting an 1.1 hub can slow down the speed if your connecting an flash drive or external HDD...

What brand is a good one to get?

Which case would recommend for that motherboard? I don't need anything fancy.

What about the Operating System? Do I need to use Vista to use DX10? I planned on using Windows XP since I already have that.

If your planning on upgrading to the 8800GTS and plan to stay with XP, you cannot get the DirectX 10 advantage. Only Vista supports it.
