Hi, I bought a new computer for gaming and thought I did a decent job with the specs of it but my results in certain games are not so impressive here are the specs:
Processor: AMD® Athlon™ X2 5200+ 2.7GHz Dual Core 2 x 512KB L2 Cache
Alienware P2 Chassis: Alienware® P2 Chassis with AlienIce™ 3.0 Video Cooling - Space Black
System Lighting: Alienware® Standard System Lighting - Fusion Red
System Cooling: Alienware® Standard System Cooling
Power Supply: Alienware® 750 Watt Multi-GPU Approved Power Supply
Graphics Processor: Dual 512MB GDDR3 ATI® Radeon® HD 4850 with CrossFire™ Technology
Memory: 2GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 800MHz - 2 x 1024MB
Motherboard: Alienware® Approved AMD® 790FX Motherboard
Includes PCI-Express 2.0, BIOS Overclocking Utility, and Support for AMD Phenom Quad-Core Processors
Operating System (Office software not included): Windows Vista® Home Premium with Service Pack 1 – DirectX 10 Ready!
System Drive: Single Drive Configuration - 250GB SATA 3Gb/s 7,200RPM 16MB Cache
Optical Drives : Single Drive Configuration - 20X Dual-Layer Burner (DVD±RW)
Enthusiast Essentials: Single High Performance Gigabit Ethernet Port
Sound Card: High-Definition 7.1 Performance Audio - Standard

(I've already had a lot of shit for buying an alienware, so you can hold comments on that)

I did a lot of research on crossfire and the 4850's but here are some issues with certain games I have
Crysis: on very high graphics can get a good 30fps with some low spikes quite often
Crysis warhead: not good at all on high graphics maybe 15fps with constant low spikes
Warhammer online: runs almost perfect on high (expected)
World in Conflict: only 24 average fps on the benchmark test for high graphics
Bioshock: flawless on high graphics

I know that the Crysis series was ment for Nvidia so that could be an issue but WIC i expected more

Any suggestions would be appreciated I.E. something I forgot to do or change in my settings or downloading something.

Thanks a lot in advance ( This is a lot to ask)

.... must.... bash.... for...... buying..... pre-built.... [insert insulting comment here], anyway.... where can I start.... your first problem is Pre-built..... second is Alienware, third is dell taken over alienware.... fourth is either a) you bought a pre-built because you were forced to by gun-point or b) your just retarded. I'm really sorry but I don't know how to help you.... since.... you know...

ok... i guess i should really help now but i warn you this much info may make your brain want to explode...

Update your BIOS, graphics card drivers, CPU drivers, Sound card drivers, etc.
Use CCleaner and Regcleaner to clean out your computers "clock" so to speak, make sure everything checks out in the BIOS.
Update your games if there are any updates for them.
Think about getting a GTX 280?:D
Good luck mate.

EDIT: Also you should get a Core 2 Duo? AMD no good for gammy

ok your CPU is holding u right back to turn this into a good gameing comp u would need to replace CPU an MOBO.
or u could inprove it by overclocking the CPU to as far as u can get it my guess would be 3.2GHz

EDIT: Also you should get a Core 2 Duo? AMD no good for gammy

i dissagree with u there AMD arnt to bad my 6000+ can play crysis 1440 x 900 everything on very high DX10 with 8x AA an when my CPU an Vid card are OCed i can bump the AA up to 16.
an any other game i can max out
but yes intel have a better line of CPUs out

As far as I know, you can't OC your cpu. You could OC your GPU but that's not the problem. Your problem is your processor. Your computer is only as fast as it's slowest component. You could upgrade your processor to a phenom but it might be tricky because it's a prebuilt. The main thing is to get a CPU that doesn't consume too much more power then your original one. Prebuilt computers have horrible PSUs so putting more load on them isn't advisable, so try and get a low power phenom or maybe a X2 6000+ or something.

I am financing this computer and have only made one payment on it.. Is it worth it to send it back and change the processor? Games like Farcry 2 and Fallout 3 are what I'm looking forward to. Does this computer have the capability to play these games on high graphics. And if I do change the processor would it be more cost effective to change it to a 3.0ghz AMD or get the equivalent in Intel?

Thanks for all the help :)

headTACO how much did you pay for the system if you dont mind me asking?
And is it XP or vista?

The reason i ask, is because i just bought a system that was newly built. It has the exact same specs plus 1 more g of ram.
250gig hard drive
and not as good of a video card as yours

for $300

300$!? did you build the PC or was it built for you? How did you find anything that cheap? I'm ashamed to say how much mine cost (and I know i payed for the brand name which was dumb on my part) but it was more than $1400 :( I have not payed for it yet but If i could get that comp at such a low price I would send this thing back in a HEARTBEAT..

1400, was that with a Keyboard/mouse/speaker/monitor the whole getup? Pretty high. If you dont want to build your own or just want to spend the least amount of money by sending it back. You have a 790FX, dont know what brand, good chipset. Just have them swap out that X2 for something like a Phenom 9850/9950.
