Not a genius, am I jumping to deep?

Hello all! I am new here. Let me make this brief, because I'll post an introduction later. I'm a poor poor individual. (Being a husband, and father at 21 will do that to you, BUT I love my daughter and wife, and having my own family was really the only thing I wanted in life). SO.....our tax Refund is coming in soon (god this is turning out horrible, but I swear I'm not retarded).

I'm a gamer, have been for a long time. Tabletop, Video Games, Card Games, Board Games. I don't remember getting the NES. I don't remember getting the atari. I simply remember gaming, my first game being Castlevania for NES. So I've been doing this since before I can even remember. I love computers, and I love tinkering with them. I thought about building a desktop, but I have no place to put it. I recieved an Asus 1005-A Netbook years ago for free, and it's old, janky, busted, and old. Mostly old. It's been dropped and kicked so many times (because my child climbs on EVERYTHING, ceiling included, don't ask) and my wife who tries to save it, usually finds it a temporary safe spot until something happens to it again. Usually it's me that knocks it over while trying to find it. So I'm looking for a gaming laptop (wait for it).......that's under $1000. Preferably in the $600-$700 range (proceed with laughter). The problem is, I used to know LOTS about computers, but they became so advanced so quick, that I couldn't keep up. So I've been browsing, and I've found two products that I think I like, but I need help rating them. If anybody could be so kind as to help, I would be so greatful.

Samsung Series 3: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834131392

Asus K series: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+...1305962895.p?id=mp1305962895&skuId=1305962895

They both have the i7 processor which I wanted in the bundle. The only difference that I've noticed is that the Samsung series 3 has a 2GB graphics card in it, and if I'm not mistaken, it ranks higher than the 1G in the Asus as far as clock speeds are concerned (I think, I looked it up, but I could be wrong). Could a good computer guru guide me on my quest. I know that price range isn't much to work with, but honestly, I don't need the highest end graphics during my games. That would be awesome yes, but I don't NEED it. I just need something I can enjoy. And I believe something along the lines of those 2 systems could do it. Slap me if I'm wrong (wince).

The samsung is better for gaming, but neither is going to do a very good job of it.

In the sub $1000 range, these will do nicely.

Add the i7. It will help.

The GT650 is a decent chip, but by no means a gamer. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-650M.71887.0.html

The 720p resolution is offset by the 11.6" size. Should offer picture quality similar to 1080p as far as DPI is concerned.

This one is a little better.

GTX660ti is a decent step up. http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-660M.71859.0.html

Otherwise, you get a few more features, a 15" 1080p screen.

The GT 650M is a powerhouse for being a mobile chip, and I can attest personally to that. No, it isn't amazing, but thats when compared to desktop graphics cards, in the mobile market, it's pretty upper-end quality I think.

Don't give it too much credit. Even GTX680m SLI is not going to be a match for a half decent desktop due to many reasons. The 650m is okay, and brilliant for what it is designed to do. But gaming is going to cause it to choke.

Well I talked it over with a friend who went to ITT Tech (His job there was literally to just rebuild computers). I mentioned the suggestions here, and he acknowledged the validity of your comments. He also mentioned that since I'm not going to be taking the computer with me anywhere, I should be looking at desktops simply because I can hook it up to a tv (since I don't have a lot of room in the house), and if I ever want to upgrade it, I can buy parts instead of buying new laptops. I think I'm going with his suggestion because in hindsight, I always wanted my first good computer to be custom built, so I think this method will be better anyways. Not to mention my wife likes the idea, and she controls the money. So in essence, I'll be looking at what you've all posted, and take that in judgement for a desktop.

So since I'm going to a desktop build instead, is the GTX 660 Ti too much price wise (since the max is gonna be $700-$750 after tax), or can I get a decent card similar to it a little more budget minded? And should I be posting now in the desktop forum?

For the 660ti, look at HD7870GHz cards (assuming you are gaming with it). They are cheaper for similar performance. You can go down to a 7850 if need be.
