Nvidia GTX580 Thread

Well, it may be a little premature, but there are signs that not only is a GTX580 in the works, but also in existence, and not a million miles away from hitting the shelves. So far all we have to go off though is what is potentially a typo on the Nvidia website, and supposed benchmarks from a few Chinese websites.

From the "benchmarks" though, we are looking at a serious card that massively outperforms a GTX480. However, it is still yet to be seen whether it will be as the first fermi cards were, and require it's own power station to run, and produce the same amount of heat as said power station:

And we also have "pictures" of the card, from the very same Chinese site that first claimed the benches. The size of the card pictured is similar in size to the 480, however, it has a different cooling solution, at least the fan is different, it is larger the GTX580 than on the 480.

Wow, definitely a different design from the GTX 480. Not gonna lie, as stupid as it sounds, I prefer the "header" look of the heat pipes on the GTX 480 :P

So far, the rumors that i have been hearing about the 580 is 120% performance(ie-20% increase) of the 480 at 80% of the TDP, how true those are...no idea, but if they can pull it off then its looking to be quite the card.

The upcoming generation of cards is going to be pretty good i would think, with the 580 on the green team, and AMD coming out with the cayman cards sometime in the near future as well.

It will probably have the price tag to suit the performance though, which I don't think will be an affordable number for most users

Specs, more pictures, including comparison, highlighting the change in fan size I mentioned, as well as cooler design, and information that it is expected before the end of November!!

there is now an "official" release date, around November 20th:

I cant believe how quick they release new cards these days...its not been 5 mins since the GTX 4### series came out and now theyre outdated again :D

It is essentially the same core, just with more stuff unlocked. And you would be surprised, it was near 7 months since the first fermi cards were released

It's so true when you hear people talk about how they're sick of playing "catch-up" with computer technology because let's face it, newer components are coming out in surprisingly fast rates now. To a certain extent, however, I think they're forgetting that just because new technology comes out doesn't mean you need to upgrade.

But then again, there are some that need to have the best of the best and that's where the whole "catch-up" stigma kicks in. Truth is, I don't think you can ever have a built computer with the latest technology lasting more than a year, or in some cases, a few months. But that's just me :P

I'm also curious about by the time the GTX 480s become very affordable, if they ever will that is, I wonder what kind of new GPUs will be out... GTX 780? :P

The sad thing is that they are already outdated, there is already much better technology than the 580, and that is before it has even been released

So the 580 is going to sell for 599USD

That is the speculation, yes, but once you start getting factory overclocked versions, that price will be up a bit, and gapes will begin to appear a few weeks/months after release when the price has dropped a bit, when the "lower" end cards, like Palit, Zotac, PNY, Sparkle etc drop their prices, but the "higher" end cards, like EVGA, MSI, Asus keep their's at the higher prices, because they know people will go for them over the others because of the name, even though the card is exactly the same (with the exception of some custom PCB's or factory overclocking)

Looks like they might make what was suppose to be the GTX475 (which is an unlocked gtx460) into the gtx560. I guess since ATI released the 6k series that forced Nvidia to scrap the entire 400 line from new production cards and make them 500's.
