Ok, need some "smart" advice...

Ok guys, I am new here and need some advice. Building a new puter from the ground up minus the HDD, monitor, etc. What I need to know is what will be a good setup for long time use? I'll list what I am thinking, and lemme know if I am on the right track.

Intel Core 2 QX9650
two Nvidea 8800 GTXs
4 gigs of ? RAM *
mobo?
case?

Basically, what Mobo, case, and RAM would be good for what I want to build? It'll be over clocked only when playing games or doing video editing/processing.

Newegg.com is my friend, so if you guys can recommend stuff that they carry, I'd appreciate it. Also, is Liquid cooling really worth it? if so, which one?

Oh, and I want to keep it under $4000. no monitor, OS, HDD, etc is needed, so I think I should be able to make a good system...right?

Thanks in advance.

Shane

Well with $4000 to spend on it, yes you will have a beast for a system. Honestly though you can build a beast for like about $2000, but it is never hard to drop $4000 dollars on a computer.

I say spend like about $2000 on this one and then later down the road, just use the extra $2000 slowly and upgrade when newer stuff comes out. Ofcourse this is my opinion..

I figure $2000-4000. I have had my current system since 05. Not that mine is horribly outdated, but I have been doing a lot of vid editing, etc...and my non-Overclockable Dell is showing its weakness.

I want something that will last a while and be a good "long term" investment. I figure the Quad core extreme, with a kick ass motherboard and ram should last me awhile. I could order the system from dell for about $5000. I KNOW I can build it cheaper and have a better system to boot!

Computers arent a long term investment, period. Spend $1200 on a computer now, and just update it every year or so. The price vs. performance curve gets very steep on the higher end scale(pay a ton more for barely any performance gain). It would be wise to get second generation parts, getting first gen is never worth it, long and short run.

I would get the Q6600. It is quad core and plenty fast for anygame. Most games don't even use all 4 cores, and hardly utilize the full potential of the first 2 core.

ok. one last (well, maybe 3) last questions....

1) liquid cooling? if so, what/where to buy? I read the sticky on it and am still nclear as far as what I need for OCing + reliability.

2) PSU? 700W good for 2 8800 vid cards?

3) If air cooling, is the standard fan setup for the antec 900 case good enough?

I hate to ask so many ?'s, but I plan on doing this soon, and would hate to lose a grand or two by being stupid and not researching stuff :D

VERY very very helpfull....one last question...What about memory? I want it to be overclockable :D

Corsair XMS2
OCZ Gold/Platinum (Platinum is my choice)
Patriot Extreme Performance

These are CL4, so their 20% faster than CL5 RAM's... Although OCZ Gold is CL5 and the Platinum has one CL5 in it...
