Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic RAM processes data twice per each beat of the system clock (thus the term double data rate).
This is why DDR2 800 RAM only runs at around 400 megahertz but is labeled DDR2 800.
I learned something new since I wrote this. Double Data Rate RAM processes two bits of data per each beat of the system clock but DDR2 RAM processes four bits of data per each beat of the system clock.
