I was playing F.E.A.R. Extraction Point when it restarted the computer on me...again...and so I went back again to try and find why this is happening, and, well, It restarted my computer...only now it wont post...I got it working again but now the computer can't overclock at the speed I had it at before! MAN THIS SUX!!! I have the worst luck in the WORLD!!! Help stop the madness! I want to overclock it back to 2.7GHZ!!! Screw the game, this is about overclocking! Man I'm getting pissed off so much I feel like throwing my computer in a lake and fishing it up 1 year later to see how much it suffered! Yes that pissed!!! Please ease my anger with something helpful. You have no idea how desperate I am! Being 96 years old, I have been through a lot, but this beats all!

Sounds like it just wasnt stable enough. Either try raising the voltages a bit more, or lower the speeds or memory timings.

And when you overclock, you should run stress tests, not just play games until they crashed.

HELLO!!!! i DID A 2 1/2 HOUR STRESS TEST! WHEN I START UP IT DOESNT WANT TO WORK, BUT IF I DO START UP OK THEN ITS STABLE! STRESS TESTS DONT DO CRAP FOR ME! THEY WONT TELL ME IF MY COMPUTER WONT START UP! THATS THE PROBLUM ABOUT THEM! YES, I'M USEING ALL CAPS EVEN THOUGH THESE LETTER MAY BE IN LOWER CASE!!! AND YES, I ALREADY RAISE THE VOLTAGE, I LOWERED TIMING, I DID ABOUT EVERY FREAKING THING IN THE BOOK!...AND THE INTERNET!

Try running Orthos, and run the test that utilizes both the CPU and RAM, it will tell you if there are any errors.

It could also be a problem with your hard drive.

HEY YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY COOL ABOUT CAPS???????

not much ;) underclock your video card and post everything you have done to your computer in the last couple days

in the meatime it would be good and well if you didnt play any games or stress your computer too much

wow you sure messed that up, and i thought a 96 year old would have a lot of experience...guess not

unseat and reseat everything and reset BIOS and the CMOS battery

and post your complete specs

and for your OCing you are doing something wrong, although its probably very little its costly. this happened to me, you have to find every little hitch for it to work. that could be a memory speed hitch, mem timing, bus speed, multiplier, voltage, something thats disabled that shouldnt be, etc.

All other games are completely fine, and sorry about the caps... like HL2, Halo etc. Just Extraction point, F.E.A.R. 1 is OK. But even still, at my CPU stock speed it wont post on start up..

DANG! Well, looks like its to the computer repair store soon. What the hell did I do wrong? Oh well, looks like another $100 gone down the drain. :( *sigh* this sux...

ADE, you have to stop with all this complaining just 'cause it's not overclocking very well. Computer hardware is designed to run at what the manufacturers set it at. Not any higher (or lower...).

Right, now I got that out the way, what exactly is your problem? The fact that it won't overclock very well, or that it isn't posting at all?

Also, it would be helpful if you told us what hardware you have (name, make, and model).

Well it now says in my Sig. and right not its the 'not posting problem' it still does it at stock speeds too! Something tells me that I can OC it just as far as you but something went wrong in the process making it not post. If it posted every time then hell yeah I'd be at 3GHz! But sadly I have no idea why it wont post. Something tells me that the computer is dying because it wont even boot at the previous 2.7GHz, so now I'm at 2.3GHz. And when I was at stock speed I saw the difference between stock and overclock just by the start up so I never want to go back to stock again.

Ok. So you are posting.

Set your RAM timings to 5 - 5 - 5 - 15. Put it up to 2.7 and see if it'll work.

Oh, and if that doesn't work, flash back to F7 :P (only joking!)

Well lets think about this here for a second. OK, I had it at 2.7 one time and I did nothing to modify the RAM and it was fine. This was a time when nothing bad was happening. If I go back to 2.7 now and I must lower the RAM setting then something must be wrong. Even at stock speed it wont post. Before I try anything else I want to make sure I have full understanding of everything needing to be done to accomplish this task. I don't want to screw it up anymore, so I best learn what exactly I'm doing.

Ok, that's fine. But when it comes to finding the problem which is preventing you from overclocking, it could be anything...

What exactly do you need to have an understanding of?

Well, can I start off by asking what are your exact settings in your BIOS? I can compare it to mine, and there a start. I'm sure from there questions will arise.

Load up BIOS => Press Ctrl + F1

You still have the CPU at stock? and do you remember at what speed you changed certain things?

OK, so before I attempt to OC, did you change those power options you listed in power managements and also I need to figure out the Posting problem. Do you think if I chose "load fail safe defaults" it would go away?
