One last look before I make the purchase :)

I have rethought my mobo because I will go crossfire at some point in the future so I may as well get what I need now.

I also did a bit more research on the xfx vid cards and found 3 different models with prices ranging. I am having a hard time deciphering what are the differences between the three, if someone could help to clarify that would be awesome :)

one is sinlge slot (the others are two). one of the two slot ones has an open cooler, the other not. the open one will have better cooling but will heat up your case more. the other will not heat up your case as much but won't cool quite as well as the open one. don't go with the single slot one.

as far as the motherboard:
if you want to only crossfire the 5770s, 16x/16x won't help much since the 16x/4x will only decrease total performance like 4% or so. but, that motherboard will let you do tri-fire. but again, with 5770s, you probably won't ever tri-fire them (you'll probably sell them an upgrade down the road). also, for that price, go with an 890fx board:

looks like the single slot is more expensive, doesn't have hdmi, and doesn't have regular displayport (which isn't a big deal at all). seems to run slightly warmer that the dual slot but i think it should perform the same. i guess if you wanted to spend more for less that is ok but the motherboard won't have an issue with a dual slot card since the pci-e lanes are far enough apart. i'd just get a dual slot one.

Between a 8X/8X and 16X/16X thats true with a 5770. But a X4 slot really sucks, plus the 4 lanes run off the southbridge (instead of the northbridge) which even kills performance alittle more.

These 880/870 were never meant to be C/F boards and the manufactures cheated and pulled 4 lanes off the southbridge for a selling point. Because AMD wont let them split the lanes like a 790X/890X/GX boards from the northbridge.
 
i didn't notice too much of a difference going from 16x/4x to 16x/16x with my 5770s. at least if i remember correctly...
