Suddenly the Win 7 OS shuts down and reboots, with no warning. Not sure what's going on. After reboot a box comes up "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" comes up. Below are the details:

Can anyone help identify cause?
 
Can you give us your system specs? Random shutdowns are usually a power issue.

Is there any more information about the times that the PC will shut down? Any circumstances that seem to have it shut down more frequently like games or graphics vs the internet?
 
Here are the specs. I cannot be sure if it only happens when I run a certain software program or just when it sits not being used. I built this computer just for use with my computrainer. I do not use it for anything else except maybe occasionally to get on web. But even that is only for updates. I have had it on for hours, not being used and nothing happens. I have even had the computrainer software being used and sometimes nothing happens. Having a hard time narrowing down the time it happens.

Ok. This is either a video card driver issue or the card itself. Try updating the drivers first and then if that don't help, try a different video card.
 
OK thanks John. I'll try the driver. If I have to replace the card, what would you recommend, looking at my system? Same card, different model?
 
As long as you don't play games, you can use the onboard video. Just find a card that you can afford.
 
OK, I just replaced the video card (see below), and I am continuing to get the blue screen. Any ideas?

OK I've uninstalled and installed the driver twice and each time I get he following error message shortly after a reboot
"Catalyst Control Center: Host application has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available." And then there is a button that says "close program"

Suggestions??
 
Are you downloading the driver from ATI website or from the cd? Always get the latest from the website.
 
I went ahead and clicked on the close program button, rebooted and let it sit for a few minutes. Walked away and the following was up on the screen:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.

And it seems to be frozen here. to turn off the computer, I have to hold in the on/off button.

"win32k.sys" driver is causing this BSOD SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION.

Try completely uninstalling the IntelliPoint mouse driver from the Device manager,BUT BEFORE YOU DO THAT,YOU MUST DO THE FOLLOWING:

Be sure to remove it's INF and PNF files from the "inf" directory located usually in:

"C:\WINDOWS\inf"

Also remove it's SYS files from the "drivers" directory located usually in:

"C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers"


NOTE: If you are using Windows Vista or newer OS then in Device Manager there is an option to remove those INF,PNF and SYS files which are a part of that driver automatically instead of doing that manually like you had to do in XP or older OS.

After that you can completely uninstall the IntelliPoint mouse driver from the Device manager.If you are asked to restart the computer,restart it.If you are not asked to restart the computer,restart it anyway.

Just started running memtest and the following error came up. Not sure what to do next. How would I get into the BIOS and very nervous about being there.

Memory error detected! Copying between cb07 add and cb07a0f did not resutl in accurate copy.
MeM Test has detected that your computer cannot accurately store data in RAMHcidesign.com/memtest
 
STARS, when I go into device manager, there is no Intellipoint listed. Under the "Mice and other pointing devices" area, it just says "HID-compliant mouse" and not sure, even with Win7 I see where to remove the inf and pnf files.

What am I doing wrong?
