Overclocking Problems

Hi,

I recently over-clocked my AMD Phenom 555 B.E. 3.2GHz to 3.8GHz by upping the multiplier to 19x, I am using a gigabyte 870a-ud3 and a 600 watt from Cyberpower. In order to do this I upped my Vcore from 1.45V.

So when I boot up the windows screen glitches a little bit, but I was able to run prime95 for eight hours without any problems. temps stayed under 43 So I am confused to whether I have a stable overclock or not? should I up the voltage of anything else to help stable my overclock? My Bios options gives me many options.

I also have the option for my computer to automatically shut down when my temps get over 65, but am planning to unlock my one additional core that is good. Will this function work after unlocking the additional cores, I know that unlocking makes your core temps mess up so I am not sure whether this function will still work after unlocking the additional core.

Thanks

Does the screen glitch occur when it's at stock speed? If it doesn't, then it's probably something to do with your OC. When I OC'ed my CPU too far, I would have random Windows error messages and whatnot so I decreased it.

It's not always good to just increase the multiplier on the CPU. Although having a Black Edition means that the multiplier's unlocked, it doesn't mean to just increase it to get an overclock out of it. The best way is to decrease the multiplier down and increase the FSB frequency a bit. You want to find a good balance between the two for a steady overclock.

Try different combinations like a 17.00 multiplier with a FSB frequency of 223, or 16.00 with 237 FSB. Always run a stability test after you make any changes to make sure it's stable and monitor your temps, but it sounds like that's what you've been doing so you should be alright :)

Try running Prime95 longer if you're still not sure about its stability. As for unlocking the cores, it's a crap shoot.
