overclocking X800XT to PE

alright, i willl let you know how it went when i finished. umm in our old desktop we have a MX400, ive got riva tools or what ever its called and i was just wondering if this card can OC, if so do u know how?

ok, i want to know how far i can take this card without doing any damage to it, what is the highest speeds that you have seen my card reach? will it go to the X850XT PE??

It's pretty much impossible to damage it by raising the speeds, the worse that will happen is your screen will go blank and crash.

Just scan for artifacts, then raise the speeds individually by 5Mhz increments, until you see artifacts, then back it down 5-10Mhz.

And DO NOT have it set the OC speeds at startup right away, or you will have a heck of a time trying to lower them before ATI Tool loads, and before it crashes.

so when i have reached the max that it will go what do i do? do i shut down the program and the setting will stay the same? do i have to redo it every time i start up if i dont go set OC?? im a lil confused

Once you reach the max OC in ATI Tool, create a new profile at the top by clicking "new", name it something, then save the settings to that profile.

Then go to the "settings" option on the bottom of the program, click on "startup" from the pull-down menu, then select it to load the profile you made via startup, and to start the program via registry key.

so thats all i have to do it will be all good?

also, iam lookin to get a new fan for the card, are the arctic coolers any good, and which one will fit my card? or is there a better cooler for overclocking?

The stock cooler on those cards are fine, and unless you are volt modding it, the temps dont raise that much when you overclock.

so theres no point gettin the new cooler then?

Well if you want the GPU to run quieter, or run a bit cooler, then sure, get one. But the stock one is fine, otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell it.

Mine doesn't get over 65C when its on 100% fan, and it doesnt go over 73C when its at 14% fan. It's also overclocked, and I dont run into any heat-related issues.
