PC crashed, now I have no front case USB ports.

My PC had one of it's typical blackout episodes and this time I lost my front USB ports. They will sometimes work for like a minute then they will have no power until I reboot the PC, but all the other ports work fine. I am currently using a USB hub on my rear motherboard USB's so it isn't an urgent problem but I'd still like to know if fixing this is possible.

Do you still have these problems if you unhook your front USB panel from the motherboard on both headers?

(Obviously the USB ports won't work, but the black screen issues).

Perhaps these USB ports are the root of the problems with blackouts. Unplug them from the motherboard and see what happens as suggested by Tim above.

Reset CMOS?

Do you have any exclamation points in Device Manager?
No, but if I plug anything into those ports, the device will work for like 3 seconds and then I'll get a message like this:
usb-device-not-recognized.gif

No and I haven't unhooked the ports because I don't know which header my case is using.

If these USB ports are the cause of my problems, I'm going to be really pissed because over the past two years I've spent damn near $500 in diagnostics and replacement parts for my PC!

WTH did you buy? A brand new computer?

Just unplug all of the square 9 pin cables that tie into USB headers? ;)

Well, I bolded the part I was replying to if you didn't notice.

Anyways, do what beers said and see if you still run into problems.

I pulled all the USB headers and I still had a blackout episode the next day, so this morning I reattached all my headers and plugs. At this point I believe the motherboard is f*cked.

I could have told you that months ago..that whole PC is a catastropic mess and its not going to get better, no matter how many threads you make asking for the next solution to the latest disaster. Sorry, but its time to cut your loses and either go without and save for new, or understand that there is a high probability that your threads are gonna end at this same result, as nobody here can help with the sheer volume of problems you, as one person, seem to have.

Normally I argue with you, but to be honest you're right. I'm going to begin saving more money toward a new rig, Im at $200 so far. The PC and I had "a good run" together, but it's time to scrap it.

You never argue with me, cause you don't have any valid arguments with which to engage me in.

I'm sure your a good dude, and yes you deserve help..as does everyone here.. but man, I'll play big brother here and say it, STOP with the retarded posts. Every day, sometimes multiple times a day you post threads with problems you've already complained about, or problems that don't actually need a solution - cause they aren't problems.

Saving sucks, I get that, we've all been there but don't continue to devalue the brain you have and the smarts you have by posting, stupid ass shit...you just make yourself look helpless and I know your not.

Hey man, thanks for the advice. For real, thanks! :D I already have some ideas of what I will put in a new rig and the upcoming build will be a fun learning project for me. Thank you lacquer head for helping set me straight.

I'm not trying to set you straight, per se..just trying to make you realize a few things..sorry if I'm being a bit of a dick but its time to just limp through with this current rig, save like crazy, and build new...completely new..I don't want to see you posting about reusing old this or that, or modifying anything remotely related to your current rig, or that your going to McGyver rig up some way to eek a few more years from that thing.

NO MORE..

I plan to build all new for sure, and don't worry, you're not being a dick, its fine. I will limp through with the Blue Beast (more like Blue Bitch at this point) and when it blacks out I'll just hard reboot it again and again until it finally explodes or something.

The ONLY things I will be reusing is my Zalman CPU cooler because I bought it less than 6 months ago, and my TV tuner card, because I actually use it and its a known-good component. I'll probably keep my new Thermaltake power supply too, as a spare, because in the next build I'm going modular at least. Everything else, though, I'm getting rid of or selling.
