Phenom II x2 or x3?

I am going to get the gigabyt 770 that is capable of unlock the addition cores on these cpus to make them both quadcore. Should I get the 3 core or 2 core if I'm gonna make it a quad and oc it? Sorry for typing so bad I'm doing this from my phone.

Consider your more likely of getting one with a good core with a X3 and its only 20 bucks more. But there is no guarantee it will with either.

Aren't almost all, if not all X2's just dual cores or do they turn some X4's with bad cores into X2's?

And if you really want to chance being able to unlock a core go for an X3.

The Phenom II X2 is a quad with 2 cores disabled. The Athlon II X2 is just a dual core.

Hmm so all are just disabled just to be a dual core or could you get one that has 1 or 2 bad cores?

Some of the cores are weak, that's why they turn them off and sell
them as X2's or X3's.

Both, naturally they use the ones with bad cores for them, but a bunch of good ones are in the mix to fill demand. There is just not enough of them bad on a wafer to have a whole line of X2 and X3.

Now that demand is somewhat lower, there are enough bad cores to fill in. Chances to unlock are pretty low.

Really no way of saying. I've had two 720, and both unlocked just fine. But the one 710 would not, well it would but windows would freeze on bootup even with the voltage bumped up.

If you do, go for a 720 BE as if it doesnt unlock, you can still get a good oc out of it

If your going for a 770 chip, that one will be the most likely one to do it.
