Physics X

You guys heard of Cell Factor? Played it?

I've seen the demo, Think I'm going to give it a go, but I heard it lags like hell if you don't have a Physics X card, are they worth £130?

When they were released they certainly were not worth it. I don't think much has changed as very few games really use it and many that do just add more stuff to render, lagging your system even more.

Hmmm, It looks really good though. I'm not thinking of getting one, I was just wondering what it did and if they are worth it. Thanks for the answers :)

You know in games like Crysis, will you need a Physics X card to be able to destroy the buildings and trees, or is that just in the game itself?

I've seen videos of Physics X on the internet and when people and objects are shot, they move really slow, it looks really unrealistic, which kind of defeats the whole idea of the Physics X cards.

i think if you buy a nVidia 8800 it has its own built in Physics system or something.

i dunno if thats true but i read it somewhere.

I think the Physic X cards just take som of the strain off the CPU, so you don't need them to play the games.

I'm going to get CellFactor, it looks awesome! :D

no you don't need a phys x card to play any game....its sorta like a steering wheel for a racing game you don't need it but it might make it better. All it does is add more physics (obviously lol) GRAW uses it but the physics are already pretty good i just can't see spending $150 on something like that when its truely unneccessary.

I had the CellFactor demo, it worked without a PhysX card when I used the methods in the TweakGuides CellFactor guide on how to play it without the card. It worked, but since my computer wasn't really good the game lagged quite a bit.

Looks cool mate,

you can download a demo from here if you havnt already

also you dont need a PhysX card for it...look....

Thanks man :D

Yeah, thats true! It isn't worth it :P
Apparently just take a load off the CPU.

What did you think of it?

its cool. I just did a thread on this  and yes, you need a PhysX card, or you cant play story mode. even with that hack.

edit- the game play is a lot like Gears of War if you ask me...

Yes, there is a story mode, which will NOT work unless you have that card. LOL! no fudging wonder your crack for the game wouldnt work!

Tom's hardware did a bit on the physics rendering cards and said they were pretty much a complete waste of money. Maybe the developers are finally taking advantage of them I don't know.

What I do know is next gen video cards will have a multiple Core GPU on them and each core will have its own assigned task, rendering textures, physics, crunching whatever the game is written for.

So, who knows, the next gen video cards may put technologies like physics x and SLI out of the picture. I wouldn't be surprised if ATI or Nvidia just bought one of the smaller physics card makers and tossed their technology into the newer cards.
