Planning on building my first, solid rig, half-way through.

I've been wanting to build my own PC for the longest time. With my mom's G4's memory full, and this eMachines T3256 being used as the family computer for I dunno, about the last 5 years or more, it's getting close to the time when some cash will be put aside for a new computer. Probably not very soon, but in the near future. I've been searching reading and comparing for a while, and this is what I got so far.

CASE $100
http://www.xoxide.com/auzentech-gmc-bulldozer-case.html

I like that one the best. I like how it looks, and the vertical ODD looks sweet.Though I thought about these two as well, if someone can tell me why they are better go ahead. But I really am leaning towards that first one.

CASE FAN (side) $5
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811998108
This 80mm fan will fit in the side of the bulldozer case, I hope, and will add some nice lighting.

KEYBOARD $150
http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/keyboards-mice/cb22/
Just awesome. Obviously can't afford the Optimus Maximus. But this one, black, is a good second.

SPEAKERS $24
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121014
Did some searching for decent, inexpensive speakers that work well with low sound. This seems to be a good choice for the money.

MOUSE $70
http://www.ergodirect.com/default.php?cPath=542
I tried this once and I liked it. I think it will give my computer the custom "me" look to it, plus it's comfortable. Can anyone tell me what's the difference between then VM3R2 and the VM3W-R, besides $40?

CPU $195
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103727
Seems to be the best AMD, I decided to go with AMD over Intel.

CPU FAN $51
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835101029
I read the fan in that CPU was a bit loud, so I looked around and liked this one. Seems to be a quiet, well-performing and cool looking. I hope it'll fit in the Bulldozer case. One reviewer said it stands 140mm tall, 120mm wide. I don't know how that would look fit in the case.

GPU
This is as far as I got. For the GPU, Mobo, Ram, PSU, and HDD I don't know which to pick over another, and why so. I looked around some posts, and these seemed to be popular choices. I just like the way they look, I don't know if they fit performance-wise.

I will probably try to find a monitor fairly cheap, not looking for something big probably used off ebay or the like.

What I want to achieve with this build is a computer that's good at multitasking, such as having many internet tabs from one or more browsers open, aim, works, a movie player, and I can still browse around my files without taking forever.
I used to be heavier into gaming, now I'm sticking pretty much to browser flash games, but the occasional fps or mmo does crop up. My brother is gaming more now. Responsibilities, I'm sure you know.

What's also fairly important is that it's not sounding like a jet engine. I expect that it will be louder than my eMachines, becuase it just has one little stock fan, but I'd prefer to keep it as quiet as possible. (hence while reading reviews I try to look for buyers noting if the product is loud or quiet)

I used to run AutoCAD on here, and there's a possibility it will again, and my brother uses some video editing programs. Hence I'm picking parts that seem pretty good bang for the buck +1.

I'm also planning on keeping this pc for a few good years as I have with this eMachines. If it becomes too outdated I would build a new one rather than update all the parts. Maybe ram, that's about it. So I'd like to pick good parts the first time.

Secondary, I want this to be a good-looking show computer, as you've probably noticed by the eye-candy parts I've picked so far.

So I know that the CPU Mobo and Ram should be chosen together, I decided on the CPU but I don't know which Mobo and Ram to get and why, other than AMD-compatible which I've looked at. I know I want DDR3. Could I get some suggestions, and help selecting the other parts? And if what I have so far fits together. I hope the case has enough room.

So far that's $600 in parts not counting shipping. I think I can spend another $5-600 on GPU, Mobo, Ram, PSU, and HDD, not including shipping.

lol at a 50 cpu fan. if i were you, i would consider cutting cost on aesthetics and go for practicality. a diesel computer is way better one than that looks cool

drop that ugly ass case the plastic is gonna be cheap
get coolermaster storm scout

get a more practical keyboard i know razor makes some good stuff

For AMD Phenom II x4 955 (the one I gave you below) I'd go for

I understand need for practicality. I am building this as much as an expression of myself as much a useful computer. So I wanted to put a little creativity on it.
I have read that it's made of plastic. I don't mind that it's not super robust. In my opinion, my reaction to your case as far as aesthetics go is the same as yours to mine. Really looking more for practical input on whether the case will fit the parts and if it's quiet. I know it might not breathe as well as some better cases, but it'll certainty work better than my eMachines case.

If it comes to really crunching the price I could get a cheap keyboard from walmart. But I really like the color-lighted keyboard.

===============

Analizer, thank you. I have a few questions;

What is the difference between 955 and 965 other than $20? It's less watts, isn't that a good thing? Just wondering why you recommend that one.

I like that mobo. I assume correctly that it can hold 4 sticks of that ram?
One of the reviews on newegg I read said the lowest voltage ram can be set is 1.6, whereas the ram you recommend is 1.5. Is that some kind of requirement, or something for overclocking? I see other ram for similar price with 1.6 voltage or more. I am not sure what this means in relation to the mobo.

For $30 more, is it worth it to upgrade to this GPU?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...mpareItemList=N82E16814102865,N82E16814102866

Or upgrading to double the memory with this HDD?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148411

I think I would like to stick with that case. I read a review of it on other sites. I don't plan to OC, at least not until way down the road, as that extra "shot in the arm". And it has the option of another 80mm fan underneath it. Though the front 92mm fan is said to be a bit loud, if it's too loud I can also replace it with a quieter, higher-quality fan, right? I agree, though, those are much higher quality cases.

EDIT:

I was looking and I saw this asus mobo the same price. What do you think of it? I've read the user reviews and It seems to be one step ahead for the same cash.(I think Asus is a higher quality brand than GB?)

Saw most people bought this ram with it that asus board.

A few questions, if someone could kindly reply.

Also found these two PSU. Any thoughts?

ehh, its not a very good idea to get an offbrand psu(apevia), just to be safe. and IMO, that thermaltake one is overpriced. heres a better one, corsair is one of the best power supply brands http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

You can save 20 bucks getting this 955 C3, both are unlocked and overclocks about the same
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103808

The Gigabyte is a better board then the Asus in that link. The Gigabyte has a 10 phase power setup, the Asus is only a 5.

Think the 4860 will out perform the 5750, but the 5770 has DirextX 11, if that really means anything right now.

And the G Skill Ripjaw will work fine on the Gigabyte.

And if your getting a Seagate drive, get a 7200.12 or a Western Digital Black drive.

Okay, then I guess it's $20 saved then.

Alright I'll trust your word gigabyte it is then.

I went to the search for what difference directX 10 and 11 make. Supposed to be the same story as vista to windows 7, although for now few game support 10, and even less 11. But I read that 11 helps support windows 7 and improves performance for the OS. So since I'm not going to be gaming intensely, I think faster OS>Better fps? Though I don't understand why you say the 4960 will perform better when the specs seem to be higher on the 5750. But then again I'm not really as knowledgeable here.

I searched out that ram becuase it was similar but with a voltage range(as I mentioned in my previous post) but since you didn't address that I guess it's not of importance, right? I see the Cas and Timing is lower for the Ripjaw, so that's better right?

I'm not sure which HDD is preferable. Toss a coin? lol

Okay so here's the revised build:

CASE -Auzentech GM R-4 Bulldozer - $100
http://www.xoxide.com/auzentech-gmc-bulldozer-case.html

GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3P - $79.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...28392&Tpk=gigabyte ga-ma770t-ud3p am3 amd 770

RAM - G.SKILL Ripjaws series 4GB - $99.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...m_re=g.skill_ddr3_1333-_-20-231-276-_-Product

GPU - SAPPHIRE Vapor-X 100284VXL Radeon HD 5750 1GB - $149.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102865

HDD - 7200.12 or Western Digital Black drive - $99.99 / $89.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136284
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148433&cm_re=7200.12-_-22-148-433-_-Product

PSU - APEVIA WARLOCK POWER ATX-WA750W 750W - $139.99 I like the color cycling and blue wires =)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148035

Total $895.94 For just the tower.

One more question, is it better to get two 2GB sticks of ram, or 4 1GB sticks?

The 4860 is a stripped down 4890. Performance is somewhere between a 4850 and 4890. The 4850 and 5750 is pretty close, overall the 4850 might be a hair faster.

If the board doesnt go below 1.6V, running it at that would not be a problem.

Get two 2GB. sticks. Leaves you room to upgrade more later and if you overclock two sticks are a little more stable on the memory controller then four.
