Hi,
I bought a gigabyte P965 - DS3 motherboard and 2x 512MB ocz gold PC6400 800mhz. (wot a noob!)

So now i found out this stinkin ram dont work with my motherboard because the RAM default voltage is too high. Its 2.0v and the motherboard is set to 1.8v.

I read somewhere that if you buy some budget ram this will allow you to access the motherboard settings and change the voltage the ram recieves so it should then work.

so ive popped down to shitty pc world and got my 256mb of the shittest generic ddr2 ram uve ever seen!

can ne1 tell me if they rekon this will work :)

thx in advance

(im still waiting for the parts to arrive and i cant cancel the order!)

It should work. Some motherboards (Like DFI's lanparty series) are picky about budget RAM, but techinicly, it should work.

The OCZ RAM should run OK (or at least boot) a bit undervolted though.

If the Ram doesn't work, go into the BIOS with the cheap ram and set the voltage to 2.0 and try the OCZ ram.

I have that board :)

I put my Corsair XMS2 1.9v RAM in, and it worked fine @ 1.8v. I suppose some work undervolted and some don't.

People have said in reviews on Newegg that they tried some crap DDR2 RAM in it, set the RAM voltage to 1.9/2.0 and then replaced it with the decent RAM. However, you're going to find this extremely annoying if you want to try OCing. Everytime you have to reset the CMOS, you're going to have to switch the RAM as well.. :/

cheers rambo.

your offically the man on this forum :)

looks like im getin me some corsair xms2

lol, Thanks. I got my Corsair XMS2 677 Mhz RAM up to 940 Mhz, so they're pretty overclockable! But don't forget to add 0.1/2v in order for it to work @ 4 4 4 12. And remember to pree Ctrl + F1 to access the advanced overclocking features, etc ;)

Try Manual Control, My Other computer the ram is 2.0V and it works at 1.8. just a lil under Voltage...

Gigabyte seems to have some BIOS issues lingering with their boards. Steer clear of OCz RAM with them. Some of it works but not all, if I can get funding (or unlimited returns :D) I'll aquire a bunch of RAM to test it fully when my board comes back next week.

OK cheers rambo ill remember that that!

Been makin my pc today, my family were like "u sure u no wot ur doin".

it was a rite pile of piss!

just waitin on the ram and graphics card now. im getin the xm2 800mhz stuff probably just because i mite as well.

and my pc is so very quiet its amazzzin :D
