Port Forwarding

I have quite a few devices that run through my home network:

Hardwired Devices:
Server-Desktop
Desktop Workstation
Roku 2
PS3
Xbox 360

Wireless Devices:
Wii
Laptop
iPad
2 iPhones

I use 2 DIR-636L D'Link Routers, one set up to act a switch (DHCP and WAN disabled)

I experience lag while gaming online on any console, because of the amount of traffic running thru my routers. Streaming media from Server to Roku via Plex, and also downloading torrents via uTorrent.

If I am going to play games I turn off all downloading and streaming. Then game with no issues.

Any help or ideas how to port everything to avoid this latency?

Thanks!

Don't torrent. Plain and simple.

Haha 10-4 -

so I suppose I am in the wrong forum when asking for help with port forwarding.

I'll try anyways.

If I set the ports for my xbox and PS3 on my router, and then set up some other ports for my roku, will that help with latency when streaming data from my media server.

My media server is accessible from my roku and all my wireless devices.

Yep, definitely need to stop torrenting. Port forwarding won't solve your issue anyway.

From both yours and voyagerfan's response, I can see that you take offense against people who torrent. I highly doubt out of the 50,000 some members of this forum, I am the only one who torrents and I highly doubt that both of you have never downloaded anything that you didn't pay for. So your "advice" is quite b*llsh*t.

I did find a resolution to my problem and yes it was most definitely related to port forwarding of my devices. Torrenting or not, my latency issue is no more.

Thanks for all your help and words of wisdom. Also, there is no need to respond after this reply is submitted, I am signing off and not returning. I have a sneaky suspicion that my repertoire is now tainted, because of my poor life choices of torrenting and if I do seek more advice down the road, it probably won't have good results.

Good Luck All,

Sean
