i was wondering, is it possible to use your burner so much that it won't stop working? Like my burner won't burn dvds anymore, and when i put a dvd in, it wouldn't recognize it, but the dvd would work on a regular dvd player.
A laser is a light they burn out (well actually dull over time)
Does it burn cd’s?
Does it read dvd’s
I know burners have 2 lasers but maybe it’s something else maybe in the buffer or cable/software fault?
try a cleaning disk first before you bin it
it is imminent that eventually every part in your computer will cease to work. I burned 12 dvd's of data on afternoon for about 5 hours straight, then all of a sudden, it just died.
on average use dvd burners are extermated to have 2000 hours of use before they need replacing, having said that its also worth trying a lense cleaner just incase.

If you burn to many dvd's you can overheat the burner causing it to fail. But in normal use they should last a long time thats if you get a good one. My original sony viao burner is still going strong since I got it back in 2001.
