PSU help, for amd board

I have a asus a8n sli deluxe board with amd 3400+ 7600gt, 2 HD's, and cd. I recently changed cases and somehow managed to wire the power buttons incorrectly, but the system still worked for some reason.

Anyway, the thing is, there was a minor storm, and apparently my xclio psu decided to call it quits after ive had it for maybe 3 years. So im hesitant to go with that brand again (though it was a recommended pick from psu 101).

I used an emachines psu to test my board, so that worked (somehow emachines beats the supposedly good stuff).
What I dont understand is, i used two emachines psu, both with 20 pin connectors (my board has a slot for 24, but one of the psu's worked, the other just caused the green light on my board to flash?
Anyway, I'd like a cheap but quality psu that wont blow out on me any time too soon. Ive check the recommendations list, but its a bit out of date. Thanks

With the same model board here I simply ran an Antec 480w TP II until adding in the second sata to go with the two ide hard drives and two optical. From there I moved upto the TP II 550w which is above what you need there. Here's a comparison between good and bad makes and models to look over and find one for a good price on the "good" list.

Good:
Antec(except Smart Power models) - Astec - AOpen - Channel Well - Coolermaster - Enermax(except Liberty models)
- Enlight - Fortron Source (Sparkle) - HEC - OCZ Technology - PC Power & Cooling - PowerMan
- Seasonic - SilverStone - Sunbeam - Tagan(older models) - TTGI/SuperFlower - Vantec - Zippy / Emacs - Verax - XCLIO - Zalman
- Corsair - Ultra

Bad:
Allied - Antec Smart Power models seem to lack(recommend True Power or NeoHE) - Aspire - CoolMax - DEER - Enermax Liberty models - ePower - EYE-T
- KingStar - L&C - Linkworld - Logisys - PowerMagic - PowerUp - Powmax - Q-Tec - Raidmax - Skyhawk - Star
- Turbolink - ThermalTake(complaints heard some good some ???) - Rosewill - SilenX ??? ToPower(newer models)

3 Years is a lot of time and more for an old model psu, you should be happy unless you paid 150$+ at that time, you might want to get an ultra model on tigerdirect or smt like that

I'd like a cheap but quality psu >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>. how do you spell contradiction ?????????????

you can get an antec trio 650 watt for around $112.00 for full 5 year warranty

or antec trio 650 watt for $75.00 for a refurbished unit with 15 day warranty

ball is in your court; you want to kick or receive ????

They back their customers there good. I look there when newegg gets low on inventory like lately. But for a basic or budget deal you can easily grab a few 430-480w model supplies and have no problems. Several can be found for less then $70 if you shop around by good makes.

Okay, well maybe not super cheap, but I thought I might be able to get by around 30 or 40 dollars. Its just that I'm already thinking of getting a new computer down the line, like a laptop, so I don't went to spend a whole lot towards this one, although 50$ or so is fair, but than again that would $50 towards my new comp. :/ Its just, I don't see why these commercial PC's seem to maybe have less quality, but last longer. My dell desktop is about 11 years old with no problems.

Thanks for the replies.

Thanks for the suggestion ceewi1, I'm actually going to go by the store in Raleigh, so hopefully they will have that or a similar one in stock.

You'll most likely find Antec in a Staples, Circuit City, Target as the most common seen in retail outlets. If you grab a 430w model make sure it has the 20+4pin main power connector and not the older 20pin model. The others will be the 380w and 480w TP II models unless they just happen to carry the Smart Power which wains there. Compusa would offer a larger variety for the higher price tag.
