Q6600 HeatSink

So I just upgraded to a Q6600 G0 and I am not shocked that the stock heatsink sucks. Though I blame the push pin design for some of the heat.

1.325v VID @ 2.4ghz going to do a small OC to 333x9 if the temps are good will jump to 3.2ghz. I don't need more then that out of this chip :)

So Temps Currently @ 1.325v in a 21c room I am running idle @ 38-36-33-35 highload of 100% it goes past 60c in under 10 mins and doesn't seem to stop casual gaming 50c or so. AS5 25 hours into break in.

So I need a cooler and the issue I have is clearance of the chipsets

That's my motherboard I was reading and 3 names come up a lot.

Tuniq Tower

Zalman 9700

XIGMATEK S1283 (with mounting bracket)

Now the case I use is this...got it for free so I can't complain much.

I was thinking of grabbing the XIGMATEK since from reviews and the price of the TT and Zalman seem to be close to the same performance.

I am just doing a modest increase of 333x9 since I don't need 3.6ghz from my processor plus my room hits 30c - 32c during the summer.

SO the questions would be.

1. Will it hit my heat sink forcing me to turn it sideways so the fan is no longer hitting the back of my PC.
2. Is it worth it or should I fork out for the 9700 or TT120?
3. I read a few reviews stating the kit is made from metal...but if it was shorting the MB wouldn't a lot more people be pissed off vs a the select few?
4. Will it skip the heat sink? Sadly they never tell you how far it sits off the ground.

Also anyone using it care to respond Id love to know your results.

the xigmatek seems to be like a tight fit.
you could check out the scythe mugen/infinity (newegg doesn't sell it, they only have the fanclips for the heatsink....) about the same price while it performes just below the tuniq tower. And in some passive cooling situations it's better than the TT.

Mine keeps my q6700 just cool enough. I can give you some reliable oc and temp results in a week or so when it get my new cooling equipment and my new video card.

I see can't wait for the results...though I prefer my business be with Newegg or Tigerdirect.

btw is the scythe mugen a push pin? Also it looks no higher up then the other cooler. I like the Tuniq but the size is massive...think it will hit my PSU lol

yes it's a push pin, and i thought it stands just a little bit higher.

I see well I believe Satan made push pins to torture man kind...so I wanna stay WAY the hell away from them + the way they warp and bend boards just scares me when the coolers weigh so much.

I wish I there was a place that gave full specs like that on a cooler you would think this would be a common question among PC users.

little bit of results:

I'm noting the highest temp seen in any of the 4 cores using coretemp.
Without cpu fan:
Load: 58c
Idle: sorry forgot :P

With Cpu fan:
load: 52c
idle: 41c

Note: I'm thinking i didn't install it properly/ used to much arctic silver. I already lapped my heatsink. Going to do my cpu next week probably. Then i'll get my new fans and my hd4870 :D.
