Q6600 or E8400 for my new rig?

Hey guys, Building a new rig.. having issues deciding on the processor.. here is all my specs..

Egva 8800GTS 512(g92)
ASUS P5N-D LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 750i
g-SKill 4gb 800
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb
CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX ATX12V V2.2 550W Power Supply

I am building this rig for gaming.. going to be running duel 22's. i will be using this 95% of the time playing games.. with that in mind.. what processor would you all rec/...

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core

higher clockspeed is the only reason. i don't think it matters really though, you will probably never notice a difference between the two.

for gaming, get the e8400. only few games can actually utilize 4 cores. it can OC higher too. at least 3.6ghz on stock voltages, and can do 4ghz easily with a slight vcore boost. more energy efficient, runs cooler, and a little cheaper too...
 
I like have more cores. I know there is not a lot of stuff currently that use multiple cores but you can move games to stuff cores that do not see a lot of action leaving back round stuff on the primary core. The down side to this is having to change processor affinity every time you load the programs (I don’t know a work around for this yet.
 
I dont know if im saying this right.
Its true that even now not all software can utilize all of the four cores, so i think the difference we'll see in primary multitasking, other than that you wont see any improvement.
The dual core is much more efficient in some way but quad core wouldn't hurt either, its like investing another 2 core for the future if you not planning to buy a new processor in the next 5 years.
Its up to your choice then.
 
Do not want to over clock. i plan on playing Games(MMO"S mostly) on monitor #1. and in #2 browser with a tab or two open, possible pandora.. or winamp.

I know I was running the [email protected] GHZ(it's not a E8400)and the Q6600 @3.2 GHZ and they ran games the same.Plus I could do alot of other tasks while I was gaming with the Q6600.The E6750 just can not keep up with the Q6600 at multitasking.So I don't think the higher clock speed is going to do you much good.It just makes me feel good looking at the task manager and seeing two cores working and two cores sitting there idle just waiting for something to do.I will have another quad core system very shortly.

It's pretty simple actually and you don't really have to worry about breaking anything. If the CPU can't run at the speed you're trying to clock it to, it will just lock and won't start Widows. You can always turn your computer on and go back to BIOS to bring it back down.
