I heard intels dropping prices on the quads today, is it true? and how much is the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700? also is it better to get the q6700 or q6600 whats the difference between those?

Yes thats true, but the prices have been dropping the past few days. You can buy a Q6600 for $299 and a QX6700 for $968 on Newegg.

and hey, quad owners!!

i'm about to buy q6600, since the price dropped dramatically so far. but i've got a question about cooling. is it THAT hard to cool down?? like even h20-120 water cooling, according to one review, wouldn't cool it down properly. the kid had to mod the pump or something.. let alone a heatsink with a fan?

wow that's some huge difference.. what's so good about 6700? besides that it's new
The QX6700 hasnt dropped in price yet, so it's been that price since the Q6600 cost around $530.

The big advantage of the QX6700 is that it has an unlocked multiplier (hence the X), and it's clocked faster stock.

the q6600 is supposed to be dropping to $266 (£133), the cheapest i've seen it is £170 ($340) but i think over the next few days the prices will drop more

He is talking about Q6700 not QX6700

Q6700 is supposed to be $530, it doesn't have unlocked multiplier like QX6700, but it consume less power.....

there is no need to worry about heat unless you plan on overclocking, stock cooling wil be fine with stock settings

yes.

does anybody know how much in price the qx6700 will be dropping to?
uh... today is 22nd, price drop all over :( (don't hold me to it).

It will eventually drop....

I'm pretty happy with the price drop,

Now all I have to do is come up with the $500-$600 I need for my hardware upgrades ($250 mobo, DDR3 RAM , $266 proc)

i'm assuming there will be a slight delay in some of the drops because the company(such as newegg) would lose money of they sold the stock they had for lower when they bought it for the higher price.

Right, but they probably didn't stock many, knowing the price would drop from intel, so they could very-well have freshly stocked shelves. (on quarcores anyway)
