R600

they were supposed to come out january, so i wouldn't put any stock in the supposed release date.

I'm sure you'll hear all about it when they finally arrive.

I have seen some preliminary benchamrks of the R600, and it blows the 8800GTX away, but that is to be expected because it was released so long after the 8800. It would be interesting to see how nvidia responds.

The first review seen on the Radeon X2000 topped the 8800 series as well as blowing away the NVidia 7900 and Radeon X1900 series cards alike. The X2900 looks even more inviting. :D

wth is a x2000 now?

they're still using the x____ model format as WELL as the new R____ format?

What's the difference between the R's and the X's?

Or is the R600 just the GPU on the x2000 card?

Obviously if the X2000 can blow the 8800 away, you'd think logically that the 7900 and the X1900 series will fall too. But I think its imperative that the R600 to beat the 8800, because if they don't ATi will slip further behind Nvidia. So the R600's performance is to be expected.

Regarding Heyman421's question, Nvidia is still using the same format too, 8xxx series and its got the G80 core. The X2K series denotes what generation the card is and the Rxxx tells you what core.

yea same here. i plan on getting one of those real huge thermaltake full tower's soon so i can throw a side panel with a 25cm fan on it... that way the room and any ventilation is taken care of. not that i need it my current case has like 3 120mm fans on it as well as 2 80mms on the psu and a 120mm on the big typhoon... all blue LEDs too :)

EDIT: where does it say the size on that website? all i see is 9.5"

what i wanna know is which one will i be buying? i guess we shall see am i right?

i hope this is a good launch what with AMD controlling it directly, instead of ATI.
maybe... x2900xt?

anyone have any benchmarks yet or are they still TBA?

ATI will have quite a few new models coming out. The latest information seen on the newer 12" long cards dated for march 30th is seen at http://trackingamd.blogspot.com/search/label/R600 The X2600 lineup will be in the mid range catagory priced around $150US with the X2800 models around $200. That's quite a change from seeing cards at $500+.

Really? That seems hard to believe... $200 for a brand new R600, which is cheaper then the 8800GTS 320MB.

Unless the R600 really isnt hyped up as people made it seem.

They're late to market, they gotta keep prices low to persuade the people that ALREADY bought 8800gtx's to consider ANOTHER new card.

And i know there's some of you on this forum that are crazy enough to do it :)

I mean, it's not the next generation yet, it's just a competition card for the 8800gtx. The 8850 or 8900 or whatever is just around the corner, i'm sure.

The release date for R600 is May, not March and it will be named as X2900, not X2800. The price of X2900 the card will not be at $200

All X2xxx series will use 65nm process, not 80nm and ATI might delay the release of their new cards again because the yield at 65nm is very low.

The X2900 is far from the only model coming out. You have to read a little further about the X2800 LE and X2600 models as well. One review seen on the X2000 mentions the 1,800mhz memory clock on that one.

"The R600 XL will become the X2800 XL. Same clock and memory specifications as the X2800 XT but will only have 96 shaders. Expect this to retail at $400.

The last of the X2800 is the X2800 GTO based on the R600 GTO. It will also run at 600 MHz but GDDR3 memory is at 1400MHz only. The card will have 256MB GDDR3 memory at 256 bit and still capable of 96 Shader units. This will be priced at $300 to compete with the nVidia 8800 GTS 320MB"

And what does the X2300 lineup see for a price on the more basic models?

"X2300 PRO will share all the same featured but will have a clock of 500MHz. The X2300LE will be the most basic DirectX 10 card from AMD. It will have a core at 500MHz with only 32 unified shaders while memory is at 800MHz. Memory is at 128MB 128 bit GDDR2 memory. This will sell for a bargain price of $60."
