Ram For Inspiron 6000

hey everyone,
I got some mixed answers regarding ram for my dell inspiron 6000. right now it has the 512mb of ram; 2 sticks. Can i install 1gig of ram or do I need to install 2 sticks of the same ram? i heard it would not recognize if I mix match.??

You can mix and match as long as their compatible.

It depends on the motherboard. You can put a PC2 4200 or PC2 5300, 200-pin, 1 gigabyte module in and see if it works. If it doesn't work then just remove the old memory module. It shouldn't do any damage to your system.

I do not want to remove the 256mb stick. I would like to use that in conjunction with the 1gb stick.
