RAM sticks NOT FUNCTIONING!

I have 2GB of RAM which consists of 2x 512MB and 1x 1GB sticks. Today, I turn on the computer to find out that it was displayed "512MB" (PhoenixBIOS displayed 512MB as well and my Windows) instead of 2GB which was fine yesterday. So the first thing I did was turn off my computer and switch the combination of RAM on the slots and the best I got was up to 1.5GB (1.5GB on the PhoenixBIOS and on Windows).

The weird thing is, when I load CPU-Z it displayed 2048MB of RAM but on Windows and my BIOS loadup screen it says 512MB or 1.5GB depending on how I do the RAM combination on my slots. It is weird!

I tried putting only the 1GB stick in and it worked, but once I put in the 2x 512MB it only showed up as 512MB. I supposed that one of the 512MB stick weren't working but how can 512MB total RAM show up in the beginning when I have a total of 2GB of RAM. I don't know what is up, and I really your help!

I also have Windows Vista, and I guessed it was some sort of a bug on Vista but how can it be a bug when it shows the same display of memory on the BIOS loadup screen as well. The thing I don't get is that, on CPU-Z it shows 2GB of RAM but on my Windows and my BIOS loadup screen it shows up as either 1.5GB or 512MB of RAM.

Here are some information about my rig: amd 64 4000+, kingston value ram 2gb (2x 512MB, 1x 1GB), 186GB Western Digital HD, Windows Vista Home Premium.

I also UPGRADED from AMD 64 3000+ to 4000+ yesterday, and it was working fine. I don't know if that is the cause.

If you are getting conflicting reports about how much RAM you have something is up. However, if your bios isn't reading it than your computer most likely isn't using it. There seems to be a lot of variables, especially with vista, who knows maybe it is a bug. I would try searching or wait for other responses.

For the record, you have for slots and it should be set up like this:

slot1 1g
slot2 512m
slot3 1g
slot4 512m

If you have already tried this configuration, try updating your bios.

Motherboard?

Also, is this a rig you built and now upgrading, or something you bought and now upgrading?

How do you update ur BIOS by the way, I'm new.

..and also my MOBO is: Albatron K8SLi Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX

and also ill try the combination, except for me its:

slot1: 1gb
slot2: 512mb
slot3: none
slot4: 512mb

Try this and i'll try to find bios update for you if I can, if there is one.

s1 -1g
s2 -none
s3 -512
s4 -512

I've tried something similar to that except it was:

s1 -512
s2 -512
s3 -none
s4 -1gb

and it was the same deal. Unfortuantely I can't try it the other way around since I'm at school and don't have access to my computer. Anywho, please find me the BIOS update if you can please. Phoenixbios, btw.

Normally not that often but when I bought my mobo for my current rig I had to download an update when I bought it in order to access a lot of features that should have came standard.

Find the latest. Whatever highest number version and update ie: 10.3 as opposed to 9.1, got it?

by the way, are you saying that only:

s1 -512
s2 -512
s3 -none
s4 -1gb

work? or can i try other combinations?

also are there other possibilties like the new Windows Vista or the NEW CPU I installed.

i tried the new combination and it doesnt work..

also I don't know if the new BIOS setup is compatible with Vista but when I try to click on the AWDFLASH.exe it shows up for a second and disappears.

and it also has the latest BIOS update R1.12 which it displays when i run AIDA32.

Alright so I check again, just to see if each individual RAM slot works and it concluded to me that, our of the 4 slots i have, 2 of them weren't working which were the first slot and the third slot.. weird. I must of messed something up during the installment of my new processor.. ehh.

any recommendations on a new motherboard 939 socket for AMD? looking for some quality but not too expensive.
