I have 2GB of RAM which consists of 2x 512MB and 1x 1GB sticks. Today, I turn on the computer to find out that it was displayed "512MB" (PhoenixBIOS displayed 512MB as well and my Windows) instead of 2GB which was fine yesterday. So the first thing I did was turn off my computer and switch the combination of RAM on the slots and the best I got was up to 1.5GB (1.5GB on the PhoenixBIOS and on Windows).
The weird thing is, when I load CPU-Z it displayed 2048MB of RAM but on Windows and my BIOS loadup screen it says 512MB or 1.5GB depending on how I do the RAM combination on my slots. It is weird!
I tried putting only the 1GB stick in and it worked, but once I put in the 2x 512MB it only showed up as 512MB. I supposed that one of the 512MB stick weren't working but how can 512MB total RAM show up in the beginning when I have a total of 2GB of RAM. I don't know what is up, and I really your help!
I also have Windows Vista, and I guessed it was some sort of a bug on Vista but how can it be a bug when it shows the same display of memory on the BIOS loadup screen as well. The thing I don't get is that, on CPU-Z it shows 2GB of RAM but on my Windows and my BIOS loadup screen it shows up as either 1.5GB or 512MB of RAM.
Here are some information about my rig: amd 64 4000+, kingston value ram 2gb (2x 512MB, 1x 1GB), 186GB Western Digital HD, Windows Vista Home Premium.
I also UPGRADED from AMD 64 3000+ to 4000+ yesterday, and it was working fine. I don't know if that is the cause.
