Random freezes

nothing, the program opens, and everything seems to work correctly, except im thinking the stuff is wrong because the temp 3 says 70C and nothing on my comp is that hot, although it does that for some of my friends too. temp1 is always 25, however temp2 seems to display the temp thats close to my case's CPU temp reading hardware.
 
well, anyways, this is basically what speedfan tells me:
Vcore1: 1.38v
Vcore2: 2.54v
+3.3v: 3.31v
+5v: 4.87v
+12v: 12.10v
-12v: -3.97v
-5v: 0.32v
+5v: 2.10v
Vbat: 4.08


also keep in mind that they are changing every minute or so, so they are pretty approximate

Wowzers!!! The 5v rail there is enough to cause stability issues ... whats the make/model of that PSU? :)
 
i know that the ones that come with cases are usually crappy, but this one just looked good at 500W.

wattage doesnt mean all that much ... the strength 12V line and stability of the rails is far more important .. at 18V, the 12V line isnt exactly spectacular and from experience you notice that the stability of the rails isnt exactly superb either.

ok, well, im thinking your correct, because yesterday i started up my computer at 2 difference times, and both times it worked, and then i turned it on this morning and it didnt. i'll think about getting a new and better power supply.

1. Do you actually trust reviews? Even well established sites THG or magazines like MaximumPC dont know how to review a PSU properly
2. You want a kickass PSU for <30USD? ;)
 
hey praetor.. i have a different idea of what can be causing this problem

what happened was:
1. computer does that for a week, every time
2. friend comes over, i turn on computer, it works for the first time on the first try, we think said friend is magical
3. i think about what was the difference between the times, and figure out that i usually have the headphones plugged in before the computer is on, and that one time he came over i had it unplugged so we can both listen to the music and stuff on the speakers. this theory is supported because i found out (before this all) taht if i have my ipod plugged into the computer before i turn it on, BIOS freezes telling me something (i dont remember what but it wasnt good).
4. i try turning on computer with the headphones out, and it works :-D

so do you have any idea why this could be? crappy assembly, bad motherboard, or just me being stupid and its obvious that you cant start your comp with anything plugged into it?


edit: well, i was wrong, you were right, it was the power supply. but the important this is that i finally got it to work! i just exchanged power supplies with my old dell 2350 (discontinued, lol) and everything works fine. thanks for your help praetor!
