Reasonable OC a64 3000 Venice without aftermarket cooling

ok, so I'm going to OC my a64 3000+ Venice, from what I've read, I can probably OC to about 2.2-2.4ghz without having to invest in a new cooling system. Any opinions.

I'm not going to do anything until I'm completely sure what I'm doing, I've read the 101's, but need to go over them a bit more to understand it all. What's the max operating temp I should allow my system to go to before it gets dangerous?

Thanks.

Just because your useing stock HSF I would say 65c 70c max.... AMD Says they can handel higher but i would rather be safe then sorry.

Cheers. I've read that the cpu speed effects the framerates etc in HL2 more than in other games like doom 3 etc. where it's not so important as the graphics card. I've got a good overclocking guide from madshrimps.com, gotta get this all worked out.

Another question, I've installed my sata drive, and when I'm in XP the remove hardware icon comes up on the right on the taskbar, then when I look at the hardware profile and drivers, it shows there are two drivers present, is this the reason that the computer's prompting me to remove hardware?

Yes, Sata drive are hotswapable, which means you can unplug them and put a new one in while windows is running.
Pata can be hotswappable but only if you unistall the bus for it from the device manager and windows isn't installed on a Pata HDD...

So do I just delete one of the drivers to get rid of the remove hardware icon? I'll give it a shot anyway. As far as tweaking the system by having the best working drivers installed, this is the first time I've built my own computer (completed it about 2 weeks ago), I guess it'll be a long learning process.. :)

:P ill prove you all wrong when i have my N2O system pouring into dry ice and then filtering back in, ill overclock it to 10GHz!!! -insert evil laugh here-

Okay, Just rember to post some pic of it on the forum. :P

Hey janus,i have the same processor and case and i have overclocked the CPU to 2.4 ghz without a rise in temperature. Its idle at 25 and after playing hl2 for a few hours it stays at 25 degrees,i think its because of the good airflow within the soprano :D

Oh yes i also have the same mobo :)

Nice, where'd you get yours from? I'll get into the oc this weekend. What program are you using to monitor cpu temps?

I'm getting HL2 next week as soon as I've got my net connection on.

Get the case from? Scorptech. The cpu? Scorptech
I use PC wizard 2005 to monitor the temperatures, just type it into google and im sure you will find it.Dont forget that to access the advanced features on the gbk8 that you need to press f4.Well i think its f4,if not could somebody please correct me.
