Reformatting with Vista?

Backstory:
I've had my laptop for a little over a year now, and it came with Vista. I've been happy with Vista since I got it. Recently my computer has been slowing down quite a bit and I randomly get pop up windows with various sayings. I'm wanting to reformat and start fresh again.

Here's my questions:
1. Whats the easiest way to reformat?
2. What version of Windows do i go with?
3. If I decide on XP versus Vista, what options will I no longer have?

I don't do any sort of heavy gaming that requires tons of graphic power, but I do only have 2gb of ram to start with. I use the dual monitor feature at all times when I have the laptop at home. I am often doing several things at once on my computer, so the more power I can reserve for the multitasking the better.

Vista is needed if your do gaming.

1. - Easiest way of installing vista, pop the disc in and reformat.

2. - As i said, go for vista

3. - XP won't be able to support DX 10 that vista does support.

To reply to your answeres:

1. I don't own a Vista disk since they no longer send a disc with new computers. I will have purchase a copy of windows, be it Vista or XP

3. DX10, when will I ever need or use this?

As I stated in the original post, I don't really do any gaming on my computer. I don't think I have a single program that runs DX10, or at least that i know of. Will i gain a significant amount of performance switching over to XP versus Vista? I know Vista is known for being a resource hog, and I only have 2gb of ram to work with. Would you still recommend Vista over XP even if I don't use the computer for gaming?

OK, Sorry, Well Maybe you can go for XP, but i recommend Vista, i have vista, and 2GB of ram, and it runs fine on my laptop and the same on my desktop.

I can have multiple windows open and it's fine, if you have it all customized nicely, it runs fine.

So you are running Vista Home Premium on 2gb of ram and it doesn't slow down much running multiple programs? In all honesty, I like Vista so if it is going to run fine than I'll probably stick with it. I just want to know if I'll get a significant performance boost by switching to XP

Yes, Vista Home Premium 32bit, running it no problems, and dual screen works well as well.

Cohen, ive seen many post here about Vista but why do ya like it. Im using XP pro 64 and works fine. i looked at this Vista Ultimate 64 and this sucker is expensive. it was over $300. I guess my question is, is it worth it?

I understand that XP Pro is not supported any more. Now im curious.
