Review of the X2900XT by VR-ZONE.com...

I've heard some people say this.. that ATI cards actually render better or something to that effect.. Making a clearer more defined picture. I've only used Nvidia simply because each time they had the better mid-range card. I can't wait to put an ATI card into my (upgraded) comp :D

No, HD2900XT doesn't produce a better image than 8800:D

The image quality is approximately the same.

The bad thing about HD2900XT is that it consume more power than 8800GTS, and it produce more noise, even more than 8800Ultra

Yeah and i think its an effective competitor only to get better as more matured drivers are released. if i had the money i'd buy one :D

The drivers of 8800 series is also not matured, still it have many issues. So both ATI and Nvidia need to make more matured video card

However, the price HD2900XT is not so good, because you can get 8800GTS 640MB which $70 cheaper and according to benchmarks we have it performs about the same.

If the price of HD2900XT drops down a little, then it would be a great deal.

However, the 6 months old HD2900XT is a big a disappointment because every one thought that it will be about two times faster than 8800GTX, but now HD2900XT came out and what is the result ? It loses for 8800GTS in some benchmarks. And it consumes hell of power, and produce a high level of noises

i'm sorry, i realize looks don't matter, but why does ATI insist on making their cards look like complete garbage?

I would be ashamed to have a bright red video card with flames on it

it honeslty just looks REALLY cheap

like something that's not worth the silicon they printed the board on, so they spruced it up with some sweet stickers

reminds me of a stock 93 civic hatchback with hubcap spinners and a "no fear" bumper sticker

in all fairness, tho, if the 1950xtx can outperform the 8800gts, wouldn't that lead you to suspect that the 2900 is NOT being used to it's full potential with the current drivers?

I'm sure theres still some tweaking to come.

I still maintain that it looks horrific, tho. :(

It's from the article "Even the "old" X1950XTX managed to outrun the 320MB Superclocked GTS."

It's in the first paragraph on first link on the first page of this thread.

This I don't get .. How can a multi billion dollar company have an extra 6 months to make their product bigger and better than the competition yet fail? Did the tech they were using fail to live up to expectations? Did their reduced budget hold them back? Could it even have been simple bad luck? People can say that Dx10 benches may show a different side to this card (including me:P).. But let's face it; HD 2900xt is going to perform similarly to the 8800gts. I'm not saying this is a bad thing.. Just disappointing. ATI's top card doesn't compare to Nvidia's. Unless ATI can pull a rabbit with the 26's this battle is lost. (note battle not war)

It says that for "Company of heroes" but on the other benchmarks the 8800GTS 320 was performing much better. I know that 320MB memory on 8800GTS sometime prevents it from performing well on some games.

However, HD2900XT performed very well on Company of Heroes, better than both 8800GTS and X1950XT. So, why did you suspect that the 2900 is NOT being used to it's full potential !!!

LOL. Dont you just love to see those little cars though? Makes me laugh everytime! We got millions of em here! :P

I looked at those benchmarks, and the 8800GTX does outperform it, but you have to remember that the X2900XT is alot cheaper, they only cost about $410 I believe, while the 8800GTX costs $530.
